Default Is this the final nail in the coffin for Zimbabwe ?

Just so very sad to see these latest developments in Zimbabwe, just when there was a glimmer of hope.

    Africa at it's best..... again.
    Just unbelievable.

I'm shocked. Imagine the person who lead the genocide at Gukurahundi not living up to gentlemen's agreements to hand over control after a single term. What is the world coming to ...

That is terrible, but not terribly surprising.

    Very absurd.

But yet again, not really surprising.

Giving up colonial power in Africa wasnt about giving the black man equality, it was more about the fear of these dictators coming to power.

Yet, every African country seem to have one somewhere in the waiting…?

Said it before, will say it again: Africa needs another 500 years before we will see a proper democracy.

Zim has had so many final nails they’ve run out of space on the coffin.

Yet it remains one of my favourite countries in Africa to tour. The people, scenery and wildlife are amazing.

This is a good example for those who believe that Africa's problems will improve by education..

In all honesty, really no jokes, is democracy right for Africa?

Given social structures etc, is a benevolent dictator ala Paul Kagame not better (as long as there is focus on the benevolent part).

I think Africa has to move through all the phases of civilisation and indeed get to a model that works for African nations.

Going straight from tribal fiefdoms to democracy was a mistake. Tribal structures and traditions mixed into a modern democracy doesn't make for a good system.

Well, Singapore was a defacto dictatorship and see where that got them. But ja, you need the right sort of leader.
