    Default Admin fees

Have you noticed that just about everything these days has an " admin ' fee attached . New fines has a 100 rand admin fee , licence & reg has an admin fee , I booked accomdation a while ago and they have an admin fee , you buy a new car and there is a admin fee ,
My question is why , there is staff that is paid to do a job , now we must pay a admin fee .

Would you feel happier if the admin fee was just included in the overall price? Instead of paying R900 + R100 admin fee you can just pay R1000.

No matter what you are going to pay for the admin

“For instance, the chief executive of the RTMC, Makhosini Msibi’s total remuneration in 2020 was R9.8 million, in spite of adverse findings by the Auditor-General in respect of the RTMC’s management,” said the AA.

How else would they'll be able to afford the boss's salary?

Look at it from this perspective.

At our firm, the receptionist has three tasks:

    1) Answer calls and divert them to the appropriate department.

    2) She is the first face a client/debtor/colleague/delivery man sees and she directs them to the appropriate department

    3) She assist clients by completing required forms (I'll explain the reason for this task hereunder)

Apart from the cleaner and messenger, I expect anyone who is in direct contact with clients to create value. If I task my secretary with assisting clients to complete forms, she is taken away from creating value for which I employed her in the first instance like dictation.

So I tasked the receptionist with (3) above. By charging an admin fee, she creates value, albeit on most occasions only enough to cover her salary.

I was once at a resort, where a group of visitors grabbed a spot at the pool, they took out a bottel of JW Green Label, with 2 x 1L of tonic. No ice, no cooler, just open on the grass in the sun. Ja ne.

@MANDREAS , I own a motorcycle business , I employ a lady to take down your detail to open the job card , load and print the invoice and take your money , So to do this job its ok to charge a admin fee? You are a lawyer and will use the law to charge as much as possible , ( not attacking you, but fact) We " normal " business cant add on and make the customer pay .

You already charge an admin fee, but instead of showing it, you have just factored it into your price.

Jokes aside, Deon, bear in mind that the majority of these forms (I have referred to) are either FIA related, or fee agreement related.

These forms take some time to be completed, and have serious consequences if they are not completed properly.

I had to spend the time and money to have my staff (a continuous expense I might add), including the receptionist, trained in the requirements of FIA and I have to recoup that somewhere.

So to assist the client to complete the FIA form and obtain all the required annexures thereto, I charge an admin fee. This admin fee is shared by the relevant secretary who opens the file, the bookkeeper who enters the file on the accounting system and the cashier who writes out and issues the receipt.

All this takes on average 30-60min. For this, I charge a admin fee.

I get charged an admin fee of R11.90 every month on my payslip... to print the payslip!

Personally think that's taking admin fees just a little too far. (There is no option of an electronic payslip)

How about not getting a payslip?

When I look at our annual income statements " administration and general" line is the second largest overhead expenses line item which eats up a quarter of the total departmental profit. The first is utility cost. ( electricity, water, rates)

Administration and general expense other that the salaries and wages ( two staff, GM & PA/HR) consists of line items such as; audit fee, bank charges, credit card commission, insurance, legal expenses telephone, internet etc etc 40 lines long.

So adding an admin fee is really just itemizing the fee/cost/price.

question is whether its justifiably vatable on input and output side.
