Best and favourite vehicle I have ever owned.

They are bullet proof and the SWB performs really well from the sand in Bots to robot to robot racing in Joburg

    Hi Mandy,

If everything is genuine and it has been well maintained then you have found a gem. Most from that period are approaching the 200-300k km and more range.

The only real potential issue on a Gen 3 Pajero is the diesel pump needing repair. At that mileage it should be fine, but know that its a possibility. Its a complex part so will cost in the region of R25k to recon. That might sound scary if you are not mechanically inclined, but 99% of vehicles have some sort of potential issue that may cost a few rands to fix. Many Pajero's with very high mileage out there. Mine is on 286k km and my dads Gen 3 is over 400k km (no diesel pump issue).

Have it checked over (I would with any purchase). Arnold Venter is based in Alberton https://www.mitsitechperformance.co.za/. He is an exceptional independent Mitsubishi specialist. He will be frank with you and say yay or nay. Always keep a "oopsie" kitty. I can't stress enough that its important to have it checked out by someone who knows these cars.

Enjoy the Paj if you buy it. They are wonderful cars, especially the shorty's.

R100K above book is then R180K to R200K maybe even more. If so then yes. You can get a very nice SWB Gen4 for that much money.

I take it it has full service history etc?

I would say a fair price would be about R150K.

If you need some one to assess a Pajero vehicle for you you are welcome to give me a shout. I have had 4 and our whole family is Mits.

My son found a 2006 with a genuine 80K km in good condition for R80K - but sure there are exceptions.

250k they asking, it has a full service history, i spoke to the owner and she said it has never seen dust. I know that max is 150k but the 2nd hand car market now is impossible. the owner of this vehicle said it was her 2nd car and she swears by it. im just having anxiety, in the 250k price range it seems impossible to get a good car with low mileage

Ooh, that is very steep. Pajero prices have gone a bit wild of late. Like sneaky pete said, you could get a very nice Gen 4 shorty for that price. The Gen 4 (2007 and newer) is common rail and is generally all round better than the Gen 3. Anything below 200k km in Paj is generally low mileage.

Nope, even if it is a low km vehicle.
You can buy a high miler and replace the engine for that money.

For that money, look for a Gen4.

The low km mite tempt you but after so many years there are many other problems with any vehicle , its 18 or 19 years old ! our spare car a Volvo S40 2005 model has done 120k with full service but as it gets older lots of problems like coolant hoses , AC , etc , so just because its done low Km there are all the other parts that get past its life , engine and gear train should be fine but the rest ?
They are taking advantage of the current situation and its way over priced , If I thing of selling my Generation 4 2008 with 94k on I would ask 220k to 260k
Pajero 3.2 DID Gen 4 Standard for now

Wow... that price sounds too high. I have a 2007 Gen 4 (although lwb) with only 80k on clock (and also no offroad) and was offered far less than that!!

    Hi Mandy s

You need to take into account the "book" value of the vehicle. Should the vehicle be involved in an accident / stolen your insurance will only pay out between trade and retail value, you will have great difficulty insuring the vehicle R100k over book / Transunion retail. So you will put yourself at financial risk from day one.

Good condition or not it is still and old vehicle you have much good advice here on this thread. Remember your first loss is usually your best loss.

My advice would be to walk away 60% over book is to much I think max over book should be no more than R25/30k

I wish you well in your decision.

Sick! I see these crazy 'but there's no other like it and I know I'll get my price' ads often. There's always something fishy in such a case; crazy people ask crazy prices and you don't want to make crazy purchase, do you...
