    Default Replacing Shocks on FJ

I have to replace the front shocks on my FJ. I have done just under 130,000 on the original set fitted. I have been quoted R 5;302- by Superquick for a set of Gabrielís including fitment. I would appreciate suggestions from FJ owners who have replaced their shocks on which shocks are best suited to the FJ and whether it best to replace all four shocks rather than just the front oneís. The suspension on my vehicle is standard.

Are you considering upgrading or do you want to keep it standard?

Friend of mine did the full Tough Dog suspension upgrade on his FJ - the non adjustable shocks. He canít stop raving about the improvement and he is quite wheel and suspension savy. Owned a HiQ for 20 + years.

I have Standard Munroe shocks on my Hilux. They pretty decent as a value proposition

Then I would go with OE. Im not sure about the FJ, but on most Toyota vehicles OE shocks are reasonably priced and better than the cheap aftermarket stuff.

I got a quote for the FJ - about R12k for new OEM shocks from Toyota! The rear shocks are about R1500 per shock whilst the front ones are R4000 per shock!

That almost puts it in the territory of an aftermarket upgrade to suspension.

It's around a third of what a whole suspension costs.

Yes you are right. Meant close to aftermarket shocks. Maybe half to a third of whole suspension upgrade. Anyway - I would also like to know what aftermarket shock options are out there for standard length coils?

It looks like for some brands the aftermarket shocks and standard shocks are same length.

Dealer prices are absolutely mad at the moment , dont ever replace dampers / suspension there , their labour rate is at least R1500/hr I dont know the FJ suspension but probably rear is just bolt on and off but front will need some work thats why they charge so much for the front

Stay away from the oem shocks, imo they are crap quality, I had leaking rears on both my previous vehicles.
The trick is to get replacement shocks that gives the oem ride possibly look at the Bilstein..

I also need to replace shocks on my FJ . Got a qoute on bilsteins B8 last week from Goldwagen it was about 12k for all 4. It seems that Tough Dog shocks for 14k will be worth it.

Tough Dog are great shocks, but have a look at Pedders Gas as an OE replacement. Much better ride than OE and youíll be pleasantly surprised by the cost.
