Hen's teeth!

Hi everyone
This is my first post in the community after reading different threads for some time now.
I'm urgently looking for a Land Rover Freelander 2 to buy.
These are my ideal specs:
- 2013 or newer (post face lift)
- Under 100k kilometres
- Full service history
- Preferably 18 inch or smaller tims (tyre costs )
- Known general history (accident free, etc.)
- 7 year cam belt change done
- Excellent mechanical/ cosmetic condition
- Based in the Western Cape (I'm in Hermanus)
My budget is more or less R250k.
Please let me know if you have one or know of any leads. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum!
I like your vehicle preference I think the price may be a bit unrealistic for those specs
Thanks! Such a great car!
Probably, but one can hope! Might work for a private sale? I had a look at one yesterday with these specs (80k kms, full service history for R249k), but the background was a bit questionable, dash cover material started to lift at places and a lot of rattles/ squeeks.

I recently bought a 2010 with 220k on the clock. But in showroom condition, and all the invoices to show proper maintenance always ahead of time. Was I nervous? Completely.... But at 1/2 the price of a similar age/mileage Fortuner, thought it worth the risk. What an amazing vehicle... Just done a trouble free 5,000km trip to Kgalagadi and Mokala. No rattles anywhere on an 11 year old vehicle on some badly corrugated roads. No oil used, amazing fuel consumption. (Look at me - sound like a LR ad!)
The takeaway for me is that you could get a 2013 with low mileage that has not been maintained properly and left in the sun, or a slightly older model with higher mileage that has been fussed over. Buying second hand is always a gamble, but if you research the vehicle's history thoroughly, you stand a better chance of finding a peach.
Good luck - you won't go wrong if you find a good FL2.
Are you serious? I recently saw the same one (must have been since it's the same seller, location and mileage) for 20k to 30k more. I think they fixed the things I complained about (he mentioned that they can replace the dashboard and sort out the reattles) and reckoned they can sell it for more.
Bought my 2013 model last year April. Now on 138 km. Paid under R200k Such an amazing car. When do we change timing belts, and gearbox flushes, I also need to know. . I'll take it to ZF transmissions for gearbox flush , as I also took my Disco to them for gearbox oil change and proper flush.
Hope you find your issue on the gearbox shudder, but it can become a nightmare if send from pillar to post. Been there got the T shirt.
Make it the sellers problem, and stick to your guns, as soon as you get involved between the seller and the mechanic it sort of becomes your problem..... Be careful
Good luck, hope you get it sorted.

Hi Kaaspaas
How did you find the move from a Disco (3 I assume) to the Freelander 2?
I've got my eyes on a 2013 SD4 HSE pre face-lift but every time I think I should I find myself giving the V8 ponies a bit of a startle to cure it....
Cheers

@Kaspaas FYI, the Freelander 2 has an Aisin gearbox, not a ZF one.

I have met some crazy people. They have made me their leader...
Si vis pacem, para bellum
I had a D3, then platkar, then FL2.
My take on it.
Nothing I have ever driven or owned comes close to a D3 for all round greatness. The ride is awesome, the space is awesome, the car is awesome. The repair costs were also awesomely expensive.
What you will likely experience though is having other nice things as well, since the Freelander doesn't really break.
Initially you will be a bit disappointed in the FL2, it's day and night vs a D3/4. But once you start taking it Offroad and having some fun, she will put a smile on your face.
Also, when you get in the FL, you will notice one other great thing happening. That weird funny funky feeling in your stomach for driving a Landy will be there only for the first 2 or 3 drives before slowly subduing, and after about a year you'll completely forget what it feels like.
