Default Namibians & their 12V Fridges: User Reviews, service etc.

We are currently in the market for our first 12V fridge and even though there are multiple threads about this I thought perhaps it was a good idea to get feedback from Namibian owners:

Which fridge in your opinion has the best value for money, service etc
Very eager to hear your personal reviews.

I have an affinity for Engel. I like it and trust the brand. My 60lt Engel is now 13 years old and still going strong (when I'm not camping, I use it at home and it runs 24/7).

In Namibia, best value for money is National Luna.

Engel is probably the “best” but massively expensive. Snowmaster is good (my dad has both NL and Snowmaster) but after sales in Nam is sketchy

I have 2 NL’s. 52l weekender and a 90l combo. 52l now 8 years old and does duty in the car(s) and dis duty in the back of my Amarok for 3 years. They are not without their problems i.e I had to replace the controller box on my weekender, but even with that cost, it is still cheaper than the equivalent Engel

Edit to add - the controller box was due to a surge while plugged in to 220v. Still worked fine on 12v

Engel is expensive as said. Snomaster had no 'good service' here, next choice is NL.

13 years is an impressive time-frame, I see bunch of users mentioned the old Engels are the real GOATS.

    interesting, thanks for the input.
You mentioned after sales being sketch, I reckon Cymot probably wont be able to service SnoMasters themselves then?

i saw they have a decent deal on a 50L SnoMaster here,

    https://www.cymot.com/en/outdoor/coo...dgefreezer-50l

im not really a fan of the modern looking fridge, gives it a somewhat flimsy vibe to it. I'd like to be proven wrong though.

-Im also not opposed to buying second-hand I would just need to know the compressors or other possible failing parts can be fixed in Nam

My dad's NL (also a 90l combo) he bought second hand. Probably about 15 years old now. Still runs like a swiss clock. And it does duty on the back of his bakkie all the time.

He had a bit of trouble with the Snowmaster (bought on a deal from Takealot) but seems sorted now. But yes, at the time, no-one in Nam could help him. Bushwackers Swakop finally assisted s he knows the owner.

My 90l does duty in the Bush Lapa. No trouble so far.

I maintain, the best value for money is NL

I love my Waco 80L unit, but if I buy more now, it would be NL.
The construction and ease of service and repairing is just way better.

All these fridges are of good quality!

I would look for specials and give the insolation thickness a good look!

I think Engel has proven itself in Namibia, but all of us dont have that kind of money.

The rest pretty much all the same in my opinion. I got the Snomaster because on the day I was looking it was on special. I like that I got a free bag and a monitor that plugs into my lighter socket.

Got it from the Sportmans warehouse in Grove Mall, so I feel confident should I have a warranty issue.

After more than a year, no issues so far.
