    Default Cooler Box

I am looking for a quality 45L cooler box.
Seen lots that claim to keep product frozen for 3 days, but unsure if they are gimmicks?
    All recommendations welcome

    Thanks

    Get the Romer.

Sturdy and it really does keep stuff frozen.

I have a Chilly Chest. Sturdy as hell and keeps my ice frozen for daysssss.
But the Romer has a big following as well.

I think there are a number of brands now that compete in that space. I personally have the Romer and would recommend them. I have two Dometic 50 L fridges. One goes in the Pajero and one was meant for the trailer. However as a freezer, the Romer trumps the fridge over 5 days.

Does not use power, holds ice solid for 3 days. Melted ice is ice cold for days afterwards but you can drain it if you want to. Solid build and can take a knock and rough roads without worrying. Mine even has the bottle opener in the lid.

    Good product, worth the investment.

Lusted for a Landy but the Pajero was sexier and bigger in the right departments, just like my Missus.

Romer, I have the 45l and love it.
Apart from keeping ice for days, its best feature for me is between the ability to sit on it with my 125 kg frame and the bottle opener in the lid. I can't quite decide which of the 2 comes in most handy, I sit on it all the time whether at a braai or even on the beach and I also use the bottle opener all the time.

Just came back from Darlington dam camp out. Filled both 60ltr and 45ltr Romer cooler boxes with ice packets. Large one had my frozen meat packed between ice bags, smaller has my 4ltrs of cooldrink and beers. Packed Romer boxes on Thursday morning with 33 degree heat. Did not condition boxes ie add cold ice night before to cool down interiors.

Left Thursday morning, drove to dam with extreme ambient heat. Dam must have been in 30 degree mark during daytime. Cooler boxes were left in canopy in mostly sun. Left Sunday, gave group staying until Monday a few bags of ice. Arrived home and unpacked on Monday, still had a lot of ice, most melted in packets but was ice and water combined.

for the ice and meat to remain frozen, do you all keep the boxes closed permanently, or use it as a normal cooler? (open every 30min or for a beer / cold drink / snack)

For frozen I do the age old tried and tested. Block ice on the bottom, frozen food on top of that, then ice cubes to fill in the gaps. Cover top with yoga mat and close lid. Only open for removal of meat. I use the fridge for beers and drinks usually.

If I use the Romer as a cooler box, then I use bags of ice and don't drain it as the ice melts. This keeps the beers ice cold. Take one out and immediately replace.

I own two Romers, one shipped with a fault and didn't seal properly. Romer resolved this very quickly. They do what they claim very well. Solid built.

I have been looking for a smaller cooler for my daily meals when i'm on the road. And I came across the Tentco extreme ice cooler, I would not overlook this option.
