Default Forum member wins Tiervis Bonanza

Koos Meyer (known as "Beurvoort" around here), one of my bestest hunting and fishing buddies of the past 3 decades and some, won the Tiervis Bonanza today - held at Jozini. More than 400 anglers and 130 boats.

    Lekker Koos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need to make sure, but fish came in a fraction under 6 kg's.

With oom Fluffy a winner a few years ago - seems Forum Membership is a good start to win this comp.

Congrats! It was tough out there. We blanked out on two boats. Tried our best.

Well done boys, Koos jou yster. It’s a proud moment, your smile is warranted!

We won the bonanza back in 2014, made a real gat of ourselves when the boat tipped over during the picture session at price giving. We won by 25grams, was mind blowing. We had absolutely no idea we won until it came down to third place and we were almost a kg heavier, we then heard the group sitting right in front of us whispering to each other the “winning weight” and we realised we’re heavier. Was a surreal experience honestly, a 4 man brother / brother in law make-up on our first ever (and last) comp as a team and one of us never even fish.
I was the only one who had some previous experience, it was my second competition having spent only half the Friday the year before.

My son was there, caught a 3.2kg. He was quite upset about the behaviour of the campers, doef doef music until 4am, no covid regs being adhered to and general lack of respect for fellow campers. Expect to see a blip of Positive covid cases after this. I had to educatee him about 'brandewyn het nie brieke nie!" To add to that, the skipper of the boat he was on doesn't believe in the covid pandemic and is a huge anti-vaxxer.

Congrats to the winner, that is a big boy.

Congrats to your son as well!

The party tunes was no joke on the first night. I was not wearing a mask as I stuck them in my ears for relief. It was however again a minority that caused the trouble/lack of respect.

Well done. 6 kg's is about the limit for Tiger at Jozini. I don’t know what the record is but biggest I have ever seen over many years is about 6.5 kg.

Thanks for all the messages of congrats. It was a privilege to share the win with my two youngest on the boat, and the eldest also being there on his own boat. I have been competing in this competition for many years, and it was great to catch a winner at last. Caught her at 11H00 on Saturday morning. the remaining 4, 5 hours until lines up was the longest I experienced in a while. Yes, also had no sleep on the Thursday evening due to some selfish drunkards with loud music. We don`t really do the beer tent thing and enjoyed the camping amongst our group. As a whole it was a well organized event, and we will certainly go again.

We spoke to your eldest son in the queue for the showers. Said he was not sure what bait was used (maybe that it was live bait) but that you caught it in the middle of the Dam about?

Yes, caught her (I am sure it was a female, seemed to be laden with eggs) on a livey. Close to the entrance of the river into the main dam (Swaziland side).

I sat next to angler extrodinaire Andy Coetzee a while back on a flight. We got talking about Jozini and he mentioned Tigers in the upper 8kg range. Although very scarce.

Just out of interest, what live bait do you use? And do you catch it there at the dam or do you bring it in?
