Default 2014 Navara D40 - Scary Brake Experience

I went through the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve recently and on one of the downhills I smelled brakes and had a very scary experience when I had almost no stopping power.

The brakes went "spongy" and there was smoke coming from the calipers when I stopped to clean my trousers.

The discs had been skimmed and new pads fitted 500km ago.

When they cooled, they were back to normal again.

I have an alucab and load bed drawer system in, so it is a heavy machine as is.

So I guess it overheated !

Should I be worried? Coz I am!

Should I upgrade? If so, what do you recommend?

normally after something like this you might find your disks have warped a little.

if you notice a shudder when braking from high speed ( especially on a down hill) then you will know.

if not warped then maybe bleed the brake fluid and get ride of the overheated stuff thats in the calipers

Next time use the gears and high revs to slow you down, donít sit on the brakes too long. Also might be a good time to change your brake fluid.

I've also realised that the brakes on the D40 needs an upgrade, still need to do it. After a bit of spirited driving with hard braking the brakes fades a lot.

No ways a healthy brake system over heats to the point of complete fade in Suikerbosrand, get them checked by a professional, have the system completely bled as the temp definently has impaired that fluid's performance.
