I know i am opening a can of worms!!!
I have been driving a hilux 3.0 d4d auto for the past 9 years, but looking for a change.
Ranger 2.2 auto or ranger 3.2 auto?. I have heard many complaints regarding engine and turbo problems. Is this true or just the hilux people having some fun!?
Thanks

Noooooooooooooooo
Anyway your choice.
Well, you probably drove a hilux for 9-years with minimal issues.
I highly doubt you going to have the same experience with a ranger. My friend had endless gearbox issues with his ranger.
Anyway goodluck with choice !
I fail to understand all this negativity towards Fords.
I am on my third 3.2 and thus far only have had joy from them. Firstly I do not modify engines, add chips or any of the other stuff. I drive and work my vehicles hard and all of them has had high mileage and trouble free motoring with the exception of usual wear and tear items.
Whether you buy Toyota, Ford ,Isuzu or whatever else they are all good and all have duds in between, part oif life. Most issues are caused by ourselves adding unnecessary rubbish to our vehicles.
Buy whatever tickles your fancy and enjoy it.

Go for the 3.2
It sure is a hell of a nice looking bakkie and very comfortable
Always think: Could this be sarcasm?

As with most new vehicles in ZA today:
Drive what you want but rather stay inside a factory warranty and service plan..........
Which means no chipping or lifting or strange mods unless approved by said factory........
how many kms on the D4D?
Spoil yourself and get a 2017+ 3.2 Wildtrak with Garmin GPS, T4A, Adaptive cruise control(best feature!), android auto, auto dim/bright headlights etc.
I've had a 2014 and now a 2017, going on 8 years in 3.2's and no problems. The difference between the models are night and day, newer auto gearbox drives so much better.
Drive in comfort and refinement you never knew was possible in a "bakkie"
I'm on 265/60R18 BFG AT and my dad has a 2017 2.2 auto on 265/70R16 General AT3 (same size tyres) and we get the same fuel consumption. 9km/l
But oh boy hook a 2 ton boat/trailer and you feel the difference that 5th cylinder makes.
I could go on and on...

Cannot say any better than this.
Currently 5, almost 6, years with my Ranger SuperCab 2.2 and not a single problem experienced, ever. Didn't chip it, didn't modify it, and worked it hard, for both holiday touring, house-maintenance (gardening, carpentry and more). Saw its share of usage on family farms (rough conditions) and it just did without any problems whatsoever.
Any other brand(s) will also have their share of bad apples. Tools are only as good as the user using it.
Blue, A great decision to go for Ranger. I have a ranger 3,2 and an Everest 3,2. Both fantastic. Ranger has just turned over 190,000 and I have just done a holiday trip of 19 days where I have done 5500 kms without an issue either with Gearbox, engine or turbo. Very happy with both.

I've had the 2.2 since 2014 & then swapped to a 3.2 in 2017. Currently sitting on 160 000km, aside from needing a new battery every 2 years I can't report anything else wrong with it.
I'm sure there are problematic Fords, in much the same way there are problematic Toyotas, Volkswagens, Suzukis and every other brand under the sun.
If you decide to chip the thing then you can expect problems.
2016 2.2
1 x battery, 2 x sets of wiper blades, rear main crank seal changed under warranty. 1 x set of tyres at 65k. 99500km and did tyre rotation today.
Ford dealership sorted out any queries I had.
I have seen people drive the best most reliable vehicle into the ground, and I have seen people drive the supposedly most unreliable rubbish vehicles for thousands of kilos.
Just saying.......................sometimes its not what you drive its how you drive.

2018 Hilux Dakar fully kitted.
2016 Metalian Parthian
2021 Suzuli Swift 1.2 GLX Swambo's shopping trolley.
2.2 DC 4x4 XLS 2016 … 110k kms, replaced battery. I have a heavy foot and have not molly coddled the van - no issues at all. I will give Toyota their due, they are super reliable in general, and for that you pay the premium second hand, but really can’t see the difference between all the rest Izuzu, Nissan etc
