Hy was superfiks.

I was at 1 SSB in 71, and the Bats next kakked off in comparison to us! We were on holiday!

Thank you. I was in ISSB for three months in 75 and then transferred to School of Armour with the Elande (Noddys).
The other 2 divisions was the tanks and support troops.
Reg Otto was a major in that year and as said before, very few could do a run as fast as he and his RSM Rhobeck.

My year at 1 Parachute Battalion in 1972 was one of the best years of my life.

We worked hard, we ate well, we used top class equipment. Was a great year, still have buddies from then. Never fitter, physically and mentally, you had to be.

    Henk get indirek hulle vergelyk.

Bats was nie Spes Magte nie.
Ek weet, ek het 2 x RTU Bats in my seksie gehad.

So paar taai manne gesien CASEVAC in die eerste maand.

Taai klein man.
Dit tel baie as jy so 30 clicks noord oos van Ruacana rondloop.

I recall reading a very good book not long ago. I think it was called recce?

    Edit (https://www.loot.co.za/product/alexa...B&gclsrc=aw.ds)

Anyway, it detailed their whole history. Very good read. They were initiated in Nigeria, following some sort of messy breakup and then picked up skills from all over the world.

These days I can barely remember what day I am in, but I recall they set up a base somewhere deep in the sticks which was perfect for their operational needs. Then for some reason (obviously not logic) they were moved to the Bluff in Dbn, which had none of the advantages of their previous base.

I forget the name of their main spanner/founder but he seems like quite a cavalier fellow, very much in the spirit of the SAS founder. You should look up that book.
