Change is as good as a holiday.

Saffers I know are happy to leave the cars unlocked, bicycles on the path and keys, phone & wallet in the open shelves at the gym... when it's open...

Some Ausies don't appreciate the safety they enjoy... the prefer freedom.

    I'm with both.

Shees. And people complain about this covid thing taking away their freedom. Imagine living there where they can tell you if you are allowed to leave or not.

    Typical nonsense reporting.

They have to apply to leave the country. So that means all applications for leisure travel is being denied as they don't want Covid carriers to return and infect everyone. That is not different from any other country that still has closed borders.

So where is the great exodus? There are lots of countries still with closed borders.

Imagine you want to fly overseas but need to apply for permission to government first, and they have the right to deny you to leave and you cannot appeal.

Thanks wants the situation in Australian at the moment.

at least in SA you book a flight have a valid passport , get a PCR test and you can go.

Imagine going to court and being told your matter cannot proceed because the DOJ has been hacked & the manual recording equipment is broken with no money to fix it.

Imagine being unable to renew your driver's license because the system has collapsed.

Imagine being told to reduce your power usage to avoid load shedding whilst your neighbour in Soweto hasn't paid an account in 20 years.

Imagine having a water leak gushing down your street for 3 months because there is no money in the budget to replace the valve.

Probably stems from the days when the British used it as one big Prison.

Of course they do, most countries have visa requirements where you will be approved or rejected for entry to that country. Even those that don't require a visa do not allow indefinite stays.

Lockdown and travel restricted to 5km from your house for 8 cases, seems a tad excessive

Melbourne entered its sixth lockdown on Aug. 4, which was originally planned for seven days, after eight cases emerged in the city. As a result, the lockdown has been extended and is currently ongoing

think again... 12 347 people were told they could not leave the country
According to figures from the Australian Border Force (ABF), 37,979 applications were received from individuals hoping to leave the country, with 14,900 of those looking to be overseas for three months or more. A large portion of the applications - 12,347 - were rejected. Australia is one of the few countries in the world that require residents to apply for permission before leaving the country.

Australia is clever to refuse those 12,347 applicants.

If they allowed them to leave, the whole of Australia would be constipated.

my comment was for mzanzi, nobody here says you cannot leave, giving you can legally travel ie passport, visa permit etc

were as Aus, you still need permission to travel even if you have a passport, visa etc.

what makes this situation shocking, is that Aus professes to be a leading liberal democracy, however its currently behaving like former communist East German

Ok, Madagascar is another one, but you said lots. Can you list them all, those still with North Korea borders?

It's fine really, there are plenty other countries only too happy to take my tourist Euros. Let me list the ones I'm sure about, because I've been to the following countries in the last 3 months; Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, France, Andorra, Spain & Gibraltar.

Clearly Aus nor Madagascar need tourists, nor do they care for the sanity of their citizens who are in desperate need for either a family re-union or a vacation. Holidays are for a reason, they are so you can re-generate yourself and be a more productive member of society once again. Who are they to decide what is 'leisure / essential' travel?

Prison is no fun place, yet some countries like Aus seem to think acting like one is going to help things get better. I guess they have experience in that...
