Default Why do you want to camp without electricity?

I've been thinking about this for the last few days.
Usually the first reason I'll give is that it almost certainly eliminates your noisy, music playing type of camper and you are bound to get more people camping off grid who is there to enjoy the silence and beauty of nature. The same can be said for places with 4x4 only access, basically you are there because you want to be there.

If you enjoy / prefer camping at places without mains electricity, what are your reasons?
Is it a case of you spent a lot on equipment like batteries and solar panels and feel you have to use it?

I know some say they struggle enough every day and they don't want to struggle without electricity when camping, but for many it's not a struggle to camp without electricity at all. I don't know why but for me it just feels different, almost more chilled at a place without electricity, I guess also because places like these are usually more rural.

I heard a comment the other day, if you want to camp without any electricity just go to any place and don't plug in your cable, but that person misses the point IMHO.

Yep. Maybe a decent LED torch like a MagLite. Meat goes under the ice. Vegeterribles are not welcome.

Lately with plenty camp-easy stuff available the only service one misses is the aircon functionality.
Anything else that makes camping pleasant is available on 12V.

I think it is a combination of 2 factors: firstly you will have fewer people around (ie less noise, voices, music, push bikes, etc) and secondly the whole experience is different.

I agree, go to a normal camp and just don't plug in is not what its all about.

I think the heading could also explore the folk that overland or camp remote and their motivations. In ways it is to get away from normal humanity and connect better with nature.

The use of the kit we accumulate - and cost - as well as the higher cost of remote camping - points to a type of character who will camp away from those who want or need electrickery to survive a remote (or not so remote) camping experience. No problem with either side or the in betweeners. Just a choice.

Firstly I fhink "without electricity" here means without 220V available.

If you really go without electricity, then don't use
    • Torches
    • LED lamps / lanterns
    • 12V lights / lanterns
    • etc

Why not go the whole way and walk there?
Using a vehicle is so "modern".

Don't use the ablutions - wash in a basin.

Don't drink purified water, get it from the stream.

No prepared food (tins, bottles and boxes) - gather your own.

The point I want to make is that "electicity" is but one of many "modern" aids to camping.

    Me?
I enjoy electricity, prepared food, purified water, good ablutions, my vehicle etc, etc while camping close to nature.

Iím fine with anything just so long there is some sort of toilet and running water for washing dishes. A hot donkie shower is a bonus.

Normally when we go to places like this weíre the only people there. I need to get solar panels though.
