Default Talk me out of buying a ford ranger raptor

Folks, as the title suggests, talk me out of it. A normal Ranger or any other bakkie will also serve my purpose, but hell, you only live once.

If not, what colour? (ha, ha)

If you can afford it and won't leave you with 8 years worth of repayments and a nice balloon payment do it.

Should only be bought in blue!

    Enjoy

p.s If you were considering spending that sort of money on a premium German brand no one would bat an eyelid. The Ranger will probably retain its value better and have reduced visits to the dealership.

I spoke to a guy this weekend who had one. He said that he lost some shock cover on a dirt road. Ford didnt have stock. Then a stone from the dirt road damaged the shock. Ford wouldn't replace. Charged him R25k for a new shock. He also had problems with the 10sp auto gearbox.

He also said the ass hangs quite a bit if you load it and if you tow heavy. Its not made to carry a load which kinds of defeat the object of buying a bakkie.

They seem like a lot of fun, and if you can afford one, go for it.

R900K for a bakkie seems crazy.

But then all new vehicles seem crazy.

His words not mine. He showed me the video on his phone where the bakkie was idling with the gearbox making a hell of a noise.

My personal experience with Ford after sales has been pretty abysmal, naturally thats only a problem if the thing ever breaks.

If you like it, go for it, like you said, you only live once!

Ps. Have you taken one for a test drive yet?

15000km done since March this year. Been on plenty dirt roads, long trips, towing and some off roading. Would not change it for anything else.

Have a rsi canopy, roofrack and dual battery on permanently. Loaded it heavily couple of times and it does not sag that much honestly.

Colleague has one. They are fun to the extreme!! Took it for a spin last weekend.

    1. Awesome gravel ability. Don't think there is anything to match it
    2. gearbox is smooth and effortless
    3. way too little power for what it is.

The towing comment above is valid - it sags quite a bit. This is to be expected given the suspension's intended purpose.

Awesome bakie, I almost signed for one. WRT the power or lack thereof, I felt the same with my wildtrak, however it changed dramatically after around 5000km, hard to say what it was, I did notice that flooring it resulted in the gearbox holding each gear past the torque peak, almost shifting too late, manipulating the throttle to shift earlier and use the torque band produces way quicker acceleration. I have towed extensively and there is no way I find the engine underpowered.
From the lights, it is marginally quicker than a new 150kw hilux, way quicker than the 3.2, dead even with the new triton.

Anyway the raptor is awesome, go for it, my choice, the grey without the decals

Test drove one awhile back... that was a mistake, but I also test drove the 3.0tdi Amarok which was a even bigger mistake. I would seriously consider the Amarok just because of that engine, but must say the Raptor is a good looking thing. If you intend on keeping it just get an extended warranty then your all set.
