Good day all,
Well my trailblazer had a timing belt failure on 13700km and it bend valves and broke all rockers. The repair was about N$60000-00. About a week ago a big end bearing failed and damaged the crank and the con rod is bent. The repair is 38000 +-. When i re checked the invoice and whag was done on the 1st breakdown of the timing belt i saw that the dealership didnt open the sump to inspect for any metal pieces or other damage. Isnt it normal to inspect the sump in such a situation? I am on 13900km now. Is there any person that can assist in this matter with information.
They had to open the sump to get to the conrod and big end bolts and crank shaft.

The way I read Sakkie's post is that the cambelt failure resulted in bits of metal finding its way into the sump. The repair job was only in the head and nobody inspected the sump for debris.
My advice to Sakkie is to have a look at the Jeep section. There are a few active discussions on the 2.8 motor. The VM Motori in the Jeep is virtually the same as our Duramax. Look at those threads and message some of the technical sounding guys there for leads to good/knowledgeable workshops.

The way I see it there is a chance of oil starvation. My guess is that the cam slightly seized and broke the belt.
The reason for the big end seizure.
Even if derbis find their way into the sump it is highly impossible to find its way to the big end. Oil goes to the sump pick up first, then oil pump, then filter before it goes to the lube ports.
At 13000km I would call for the dealer to replace the engine
