    Default Hilux 2.8 Auto Question

    Hi All

Im in the process of buying a 2018 Hilux 2.8 GD6 Auto Extra Cab (80000km) and Ive heard the Auto box can / will have learned the previous owners driving habits ( I know for a fact the guy had a heavy foot as he told me he gets 500km per tank??)

Will the Gearbox retain memory of the previous owners driving habits or is that complete hogwash?

    Any input appreciated!

If I am not mistaken you start from a fresh if the battery is disconnected. It should then learn your driving habits. Enjoy!

Some 2.8 Auto owners also found that updating the software makes the auto more enjoyable. Maybe start there with your first service.

One way or the other, the transmission's "memory" of driving habits can be reset. If you don't reset the gearbox, it will over time learn your driving style and forget the previous owner's. The "memory" spans across a certain km window driven, let's say the past 1000 km. Once you have driven that amount of km, the previous owner's driving style doesn't have any effect on how the gearbox behaves anymore.

I hope you are not expecting to get much more range out of a full, unless you can live with a constant 90kph

Also look at mods done to the vehicle.

While mine is manual, I've seen a significant drop in consumption after doing suspension which added extra lift.

Below 100km/h I get good consumption but it drops to around 9km/l at 120.

If there are no mods then you can expect the computer to asjustto your driving style.

I seem to recall reading once that the Aisin box maintains a moving average of the previous 8 gear changes. So it adapts quite quickly.

I've got the auto but in 2.4

Honestly a much of a muchness in my opinion. Not something that I think should influence a purchasing decision

Should be fine after a day or two
