I was keen to see how Mathieu van Der Poel fared in the men's mountain bike event after his performance in Strade Bianche and Tour de France. Unfortunately he crashed badly early in the race landing him in hospital. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Y0TKiP-fTY

van Der Poel's compatriot at least finished however her celebrations at the finish line were short lived thinking she won gold where in fact she only came in second. Apparently radio comms at the olympics is not permitted. They should apply the same rules at all UCI events making it more challenging and exciting.

And how about the GB rowing team steering like Lewis Hamilton and spoiling it for the Italians.

And seriously, what makes one think that they can get away with this? https://ms-my.facebook.com/luv99.5fm...2437155057144/

I set my alarm for 03h30 and watched our wonderful Tatjana take the gold AND break the world record. Some things you just have to watch live!

Maybe read up on the “twisties”.

I have never heard of it before and was watching live as Biles withdrew after a vault. The commentator was confused about the difficulty level of 5 as opposed to 5.8.

It seems similar to the yips in golf, happens without warning and seems very dangerous. Losing orientation while vaulting or tumbling must carry the risk of serious bodily harm.

So I do not think the comments on this thread toward Biles is fair.

Although one position short of a medal I really think Akani Simbini did great for his 4th place in the 100m. More and more SA sprinters starting the feature on global stages

Absolutely. For many years we could not even get sprinters into finals at all.

And now we had 4 at the Olympics. Akani ran the 15th fastest 100m earlier in July 2021, so not only are we starting to compete but becoming real contenders.

With some proper structures at ASA we can really become a global sprint force to be reckoned with

Out of interest, what is Rosco Speckman's time over a 100m. I saw him live in a rugby match a few years ago... wow, that lad can motor.

I also thought Akanit did well.

But the dark horse of the games must be Rori Sabatini's silver in the golf - currently ranked 248th or something like that in the world!
