    Default Travel to the UK

My wife would like to go see her family, she is a UK citizen. What are the current rules and restrictions regarding her travel to the UK?

Hits us hard. Cannot go due to us being on the red list. That hotel stay kills the idea.

If desperate might be cheaper to meet in an other country, e.g. on Green list and in some cases on Amber. Only trouble is that UK keeps changing countries between the lists on 24 to 48 hour warning time.

It would be less expensive to go to a country that accepts red list vaccinated people with no quarantine, spend 12 days there and then go to the UK.

There are some vlogs on youtube where people record there 10 days in a small hotel room.

the rooms are modern but small, you cannot leave the room, food in included and brought to your door to consume in room. Breakfast lunch and dinner.

you make your own bed and clean - Housekeeping don't service.

2 PCR tests are included in the rate

I am not sure if this will work. There have been some comments that this kind of tripping is not on.

This, a colleague went back to Scotland recently, by all accounts it was not a nice experience to quarantine for 10 days in a hotel room with shitty food. Even more so that he had to pay for the privilege.

My cousin went to Egypt 3 weeks ago , had a good holiday for 10 days and then off to UK no problems , it`s just a risk with UK changing their minds all the time.

I heard that Mauritius was on the "no quarantine" list recently. A friend of mine said it was cheaper to send his wife for a solo 5 day resort holiday in Mauritius followed by a flight to London with no quarantine required, than for him when he flew directly and had to pay for it.

Im not sure if that is currently the case but might be worth looking into.

It looks like the current rules allow stay over 10 days in an other country. We are red. List of green is the best but amber is not too bad. Stay in amber country minimum of 10 days and then go to place of your family. Shortest time to get out of family quarantine is 5 days.

We will look into this option. Finland is amber for now. 10 days with the family or travelling. One day to get to UK and then 5 to 10 days stuck with one of the two families...

Having our long planned scooter holiday in Greece? Hop on a ferry in Athens, pay and ask where are we going. Arrive somewhere, hire scooter and find hotel, which are often one or two rooms

Not one of the Green list countries, which are not in danger moving to Amber are usable.

Flights have to be looked at carefully. No red country and not France.

How did she get to Cancun from SA, if not via US?
Europe? Was she allowed to transit via CDG or AMS to Mexico? Which airline?

We came to Mexico via Frankfurt. A number of people come to Mexico, holiday, and then to the USA. Not sure why the USA allows this. Some Mexican states are at least as bad as SA from a Covid point of view.

We have no visa required and 10 year. Not worth those one trip jobs for those who have family over there.
