I looked at green and amber list countries. Not easy. Green list is out. Amber list has some options but many of the amber list countries do not let South Africans in without tough restrictions. Then the flight connections. Old Yugoslavia area have couple options where nice holiday is possible. North Macedonia is most probably the cheapest (without checking) but how to get in and out? There is a lot of history and nice areas in those countries. Greece is out now

Rules change all the time. Finland changed TODAY.

One trick is to fly return to a place which has flights (one way) to many destinations in Europe. Athens is one of those. Return R11 000.00 via Doha. Flight tickets in general are not that bad if the person is prepared to fly different airliners.

Plan to be in some holiday place 10 to 12 days is far better and cheaper than hotel in London.

Budget R30 000.00 per person without food during the trip and the accommodation cost in UK. Person has to eat at home also. Not far from the pre Covid prices. I expected far more.

Requires a lot of planning and spare funds if rules change.

I returned from the UK on 21 July.
I was in Nigeria and left from there. Applied for a 5 year visa which cost in excess of 1200.00. I have been Covid-19 vaccinated and take Ivermectin.
Did the London hotel quarantine and went about my business and itinerary during those 10 days.
Least expensive option for day 2 & 8 testing was 247 Hometesting. Had the kits sent to the hotel and did the nose swabs myself. Seal it and drop it in a Royal Mail red box. Testing response slow and takes about 3 to 4 days to get results back.
For the departure test in London, I used the Sofitel St James hotel. This is a walk in service and if you go before 12noon, you will get your results by 7pm the same day. Walking distance from Trafalgar square. Cost per test 89 (same as Boots).

For phone and data connectivity I used Giff Gaff. Paid 8 for 8Gb and unlimited UK call and SMS'.
Travel guide i used both Google maps and Citimapper app. The latter is excellent for using public transport. Cab trip from LHR to Trafalgar square was 80.

Please note that the NHS called on 3 occasions but no personal visits.

Preboarding required registering on the UK government website to get a travel permit and QR code. It is a free registration and don't be caught by other service providers that charge you for this.
Registration to be done for each traveler separately but children under 15 gets registered with one of the parents.

The UEFA 2020 final atmosphere was spectacular. Never seen so many drunk people on the street at 11am.

Great, thanks a lot guys. Hoping to go there soon as we are vaccinated Didnt know France/Germany/EU allows a transit and was waiting for the US route to open up. It's about 2 day travel time via EU normally which is not ideal

UK is changing the rules again:
    https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-57999362

Have to see the final wording on their official site. BBC article has conflicting info. If the rule would be vaccine approved in Europe and applicable to all who stay 10 days minimum in an amber country trip to UK would be easier.

Official site is not yet updated.

    Developing story.
