Default What is Toyota wiring colour convention for Fortuner? Aux power from roof console?

    Hi

I am hoping that my 2016 Fortuner has permanent 12V to the roof console. Photos that refer:

The cable connector has 16 pins. Colours used there are

    Black (2 places)
    Black and white
    Red (2 places)
    White (3 places)
    Pink (2 places)
    Blue

11 pins are connected, 5 pins are not

Any hints on what Toyota typically uses for earth (console is not earthed), ignition 12V and permanent 12V?

Of course, a wiring diagram would be first prize!

    Thank you

Use a test light or multimeter and check whether you have.

Of course I was planning to use a test light, but I was wondering if someone can give some hints on Toyota colours.

I might be wrong but the usual Toyota standard as per my memory.

    Earth = White/Black

Pos Switched ignition to engine controls = White/Red.

Pos Switched Ignition ACC = Black

    Pos Black/ White after Ignition.

Check out the black wire on your plug should be 12v pos. Not sure if its switched or permanent live. White/Black is earth or neg.

    Hi JWR

Thank you - that helps me understand a bit of Toyota's logic.

I will have to rig up some LEDs on the pins to see which stay live after I have locked and exited the vehicle. (I guess the supply to the alarm unit).

Has been confirmed that the black and white striped wire is earth on pin number 3.

The supply to the overhead lights is the red wire on pin 5. But the power there disappears a few minutes after the car is locked (to save battery).

The only wire that stays live overnight is the white one on pin 16. This only feeds the ultrasonic intrusion detector PN 89732-71010

It would be fantastic to find out which fuse supplies that white wire . . . . in case my 2amp extra load blows something. Still want to find out more before I sommer connect onto that circuit.

(I am trying to power a USB outlet up at the roof console)

Job done. Power taken off the door locking system fuse (10 Amp - fuse nr. 12) in engine bay which permanently feeds the ultrasonic intruder detector in the overhead console.

Interesting! Would you consider doing a writeup of how you did it? Parts used etc. Would be interested in doing something similar

Most of the write up is above.

A couple of us in Cape Town clubbed in to get these from Amazon: https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum...uth-Africa-yet

Extended the wires and soldered them to the back of the Toyota connector as follows:

ID:	625198 the pin numbers are in yellow circles. Negative soldered to pin 3. Positive either to pin 5 or 16. 16 is permanent live for door locks, clock etc. Pin 5 switches off when power to dome lights goes off to save battery drain when vehicle not occupied.
