The design of the hard stand is nothing, compared to the red tape involved with Civil Aviation.
My advice is to contact Civil Aviation first, then get an experienced Consultant involved.

Good morning
We are busy with a security upgrade project at our offices in Illovo, Johannesburg. As part of this we are contemplating installing a helistop. We have the space for it on ground level, will not be elevated on the building itself. Am doing some research on it but comments and advice from this forum will be appreciated i.e. process to get approval, can somebody do the approval process for us, pitfalls, recommendations etc.
Thank you in advance.

There's a group on FB called Fly Africa, join up and ask them for advice on who to ask for the correct guidelines etc.

I don't know if you have made progress with this, but I am afraid you are in for disappointment.
Other than hospitals for emergency use, you are unlikely to get approval.
There is one heli pad on top of a building in downtown Jhb, the mining company that owns the building keeps it only because they know if they were to move offices, they will not be able to get approval again for the new building.

If you ain't livin on the edge, you're taking up too much space!
SACAA is becoming more and more like the Campaign Against Aviation rather than the Civil Aviation Authority, so what C Africa says is quite likely to be the case.
