Default Victron PWM charge controller questions

    Hi All,

I installed the above PWM controller in a camping trailer setup.

12V system, 2x100Ah lead-acid batteries and to charge them 360W solar panels(3x120W in parallel)
The SCC is 12/24V 30A rated.

Installation: Connected batteries first to SCC battery terminals - SCC recognised 12V system, then PV via an isolator switch(off) and lastly loads - a 90L NL fridge.

When testing with PV I noticed the following behaviour of which I cannot find much info on the web.

The SCC displays charging at 14.1V and current around 12A.
Then the SCC temperature goes up to 99deg C and it cuts out.

I removed it from where it was fitted in the nose-cone, removed the load and only kept battery connected and PV, after it cooled down and in open space, the same occurs. Temp goes up to 99deg C fairly quickly.

Is this a faulty controller or something else? Panels are brand new, controller is brand new.

    Thanks for reading

    That got me stumped.

Seems some elimination exercise is necessary.

    • One battery, all panels
    • One battery, two panels
    • Repeat with other battery

      If no issues
    • Two batteries, two panels

Victron has a couple of PWM controllers. Not sure of precise one you have.
ie. This spec sheet says max 28V on 12V system. ?

    https://www.victronenergy.com/upload...-12-24V-EN.pdf

and here it says 50V max on controller
    https://www.victronenergy.com/solar-...ar-pwm#manuals

    This also says 28V max

    The SCC model in question:

I agree - also think process of elimination will hopefully reveal the culprit.

    Thanks for the reply
