Yip that will be a big loss for entertainment and events. We stay close to the dome and it was always very nice to have these events on our doorstep.

    Off Topic but On Topic.

Who remembers the large 4x4 place near 4 Ways that Super Group opened in the early 2000s?

I think its a Nissan dealership now?

It had related shops, cafe and 4x4 track

Took 20 years to get to where it was to be originally.

Most of the time I have passed the place it has been empty. It has been a white elephant.

Structure was designed for car sales and associated items. I suspect that We Buy Cars will include some car related stuff being sold there. There must be areas where they cannot get cars.

In my opinion, regarding the 'loss to the entertainment' industry? I cannot remember the last time anything worthwhile was even done at the dome? And I'm even talking about pre-covid restrictions.

Apparently it will still be available for functions. They'll probably just drive the cars outside to make space.

    Source?
I highly highly doubt it, logistically this will be near impossible.
Load in for a big concert takes a week if not more, then load out say 24 hours or so, load in for a expo takes closer to 2 weeks then the expo is on for almost a week and then another week to load out again.
Where do you park 1500 cars during this time?

The acoustics in "The Dome" are, and always have been, terrible.

No loss for that kind of entertainment.

    Agreed.
Let alone the dome, just any entertainment/shows in SA?
When was the last time SA had a proper overseas band come visit? Many years ago now

I think the Sun Arena in Menlyn killed the Dome as a concert venue.

I would watch these guys anywhere...

Hard rock legends DEEP PURPLE are currently headlining South Africa's Master Of Rock tour which features three dates with openers URIAH HEEP and WISHBONE ASH.

Date completed include May 28th in Johannesburg, South Africa at Coca-Cola Dome[1]...
The venue didn't match the performance... they have tried a lot to get the acoustics better, but it just wasn't designed for sound.

Was called Extreme 16 and as pointed out is now Halfway Toyota. I've lived within 1,5km of it for the past 20 years. Used to take my son there for breakfast on "Dad's weekend" and drool (at the vehicles, not the breakfast )...

I was invited to the opening in 2002 or thereabouts.

There was always some cloud over some of the vehicles where owners would take them to the dealer for servicing only to find that there was no record of the vehicle being in the country or something to that effect. There was a thread here about it years ago. I think they had to sell @ 100 vehicles a month to make it worth while. It was 2 Greek brothers who sold the concept to Larry. We had corner offices in the same block at SG HO at the time.
