Screen shot from a video as the fighters approach Oshoek a few minutes ago.

Covid regulations obviously exempted for this.

I think the Eswati police and army are not as bound by a human rights constitution, as ours are. They were probably licking their chops looking at that EFF approaching column.

Eswatini was just a dress rehearsal for what is currently going on in South Africa!

Its surreal having to watch KZN experience similar unrest on a much larger and destructive scale. Some folk here in Ewsatini are connected to KZN, a few decided to get out and go back only to KZN after the initial unrest fearing more unrest. Unlucky as they experienced the same again.

The updates here is that life is carrying on with no new protests or looting since two weeks. Shops are fully stocked and prices are actually a little cheaper that before. Lots of specials as retailers over ordered after a selling out for a day or two. The bullwhip effect from suppy chain management.

Today is a big day as there is a protest march schedules in Manzini. #Motherofallmarches. It was dispersed before it started as cops were ready this time.

At the same time HMK has called Sibaya. The peoples parliament at Ludzizini - he will speak RE all this at some point today.

The only shortage still prevalent is petrol. long ques of 3 hours waiting to get some. Its be exasperated by unrest in SA, since we get most of our petrol there. We used to get a lot from Moz, however the Finance minster limited that last year and put a quota as to home much fuel can be brought in from Moz. All to do with Maximizing shared revenue benefits from SACU.

I was hoping that I would not need to update this thread, however there have been some developments once again with regards to unrest in Eswatini.

Since the June 29th uprising, coup attempt, general anarchy looting & arson, or, if you are more CNN inclined, a fiery but peaceful pro democracy protest, there have been some developments.

2 members of parliament who instigated the June unrest were arrested and charged with a list of charges and have been residence of Matsapha maximum security prison awaiting trail which was going to start on 20th October 2021.

As predicted, due to the June unrest, Eswatini suffered a 3rd wave of covid 19 outbreak which started around two weeks into July. Everything was relatively peaceful until last week Monday 11 October 2021 when Schools opened full time after the 3rd wave dissipated from a part time rotational basis. Lots of student decide to rather join the call for change and started running amok.

Petrol bombing a police post in Sheluwa, tearing down banners and generally doing bad things. The next day the public transport workers association ( taxi drivers) started there own protest action and grounded all public transport.
Entrepreneurs with cars ( know as the honda fit brigade) who decided to take advantage of the absence of taxi's, were promptly pulled out and beaten at ad hoc road blocks that were set up by these taxi drivers. Private road users would be charge R 20 at these road block/toll gates for permission to proceed.

It is important to note that this all coincided when the prime minister and a large delegation of politicians and government people were attending Eswatini national day at expo 2020 in Dubai.
Once they arrived back on Thursday 14th, the PM decided to lift lock down restrictions to level 1 and at the same announcement close all school indefinitely for security reasons.

There was now a plan march by various unions for Wednesday 20th October in Mbabane which was now going to be joined by the taxi drivers and students . They were granted permission by the city council. However at the 11th hour ( Tuesday evening) NATCOM ( national police commissioner) declare the march unlawfully and a risk to national security. Anyone attending would be deal with.

Wednesday morning those protesters who be brave or had a affliction for pain, decide to go ahead with planned protest action. They were dispersed brutally yet effectively before they could get started by 10 am.
social media was blocked, those who had vpn's could access and some posted pictures and videos of developments.

newspapers did not get distributed today.

search #eswatiniprotests on twitter for more info.

Today a diplomatic delegation from SA has arrive this morning to have discussion with the king after he had a call from Cyril last nigh and accepted assistance to see how they can mediate in this current situation.

Me and family were and are safe and far away from any unrest. The shops are fully stocked, petrol stations are full. Driving around the last two weeks has been weird in a good way with the absence of toyota quantum doing what they do on southern African roads.

Whats clear is that the unrest of June 29 caught the security forces off guard. Since then its more than evident that they are well prepared and organised to quell any anarchy.

Also important to note that a peaceful protest march was allowed and successfully held a few weeks ago to the embassy of the USA with no drama.

You can see those demands were reached through consultation. It's such a mixed bag. I hope that the demands agreed to during mediation would be the meaningful ones.

Whats odd is the dichotomy of the ask, it's like they want school to be taken seriously, but don't want exams or long school hours?

I suspect it's the different groups of students. The serious ones want positive change. The ones waiting to be old enough to leave school want the easy way.

    I like those demands.

They are better formulated than what most labour unions can come up with.

I mean - beans - that is brilliant.

While I do not favour violent protest - be it by students, trade unions or whomever - I am even less supportive of the Chinese Tiananmen Square approach.

Removal of examinations.....And I will just sit on my hands from here on.

Beans, really... We had to pack our own lunch or go buy at the tuckshop.
This free lunch mentality is not going to get them anywhere.
