Default Buying a vehicle in Namibia

    Hello members,

As frequently travellers to Southern Africa we have decided buying a 4x4 bakkie and thinking about to register the car in Namibia, in the past it was possible to do this as foreigners but what I believe it isn't possible anymore.I looked at the Natis website but could't find more information, I also send a epos to them but i didn't get a reply so far.
Someone with some practical ideas or help please ?
We will buy the car from Bushlore

    Many thanks

Import a vehicle form South Africa is already a mission, but possible. To registrar a vehicle here on your name should not be an issue, as far as I know.

You'll need a SA police clearance, registration papers and invoice. And agents on both side to to the paper work.

Bushlore is in Windhoek, too. If the vehicle does have a Nam registration, it's much easier.

You can apply for a traffic register certificate at NATIS.
It is issued to individuals that want to register a vehicle or apply for a driver's license but do not have a Namibian ID Number. Use the address where the vehicle will be stored as your address in Namibia.

you need a work visa, a permanent residence or domicile to get a traffic register certificate. tourists and visitors do not qualify.
the only other way is to work with a Namibian and register the vehicle in their name. this however is dodgy business and could backfire either in your face or the Namibian could burn his fingers

Well we brought a vehicle in 2015. A private sale . We were U.K. residents and had no problems apart from running around for paperwork. You need a Namibian address to have tye Road Tax delivered to. We used the guy who stored the vehicle for us.

I seem to remember there was a guy in Windhoek that does the paperwork for you....formamfee of course. Cannot remember his name.

Maybe rules have changed since then?
