Default Vehicle Colour - How important is it to you?

Some time ago a member asked if a certain color vehicle would be a good purchase. That’s when I started thinking about vehicle color and the importance of color. I for one, were never bothered with color. I would buy whatever I fancy at that stage.

Some of the colors in my past, were –
    Datsun – burnt orange
    Toyota Corolla – powder blue
    VW Jetta – Kalahari sand
    Ford Saphire – white
    Ford Falcon – white
    Ford Courier D/C 3.0 – red
    Jeep Grand Cherokee – gold
    Jeep Grand Cherokee – black
    Ford Ranger D/C XTL 3.2 – white
Next vehicle will be bright yellow!!!

My reason for a yellow vehicle is that I find them just more visible on road that any of the other colors.

I would like to know how members feel about vehicle color and also the reason behind your current color choice.

White, or otherwise white. If the vehicle is otherwise mint and what I am looking for in terms of spec, other colours will be OK.

Vehicle must be super visible in this day and age.

White is the most practical on a 4x4. Scratches not as visible.

But I've owned a ruby red 4x4, purely because I had no choice as it was second hand. But I did like it. Apart from that all my other cars were white. Swambo do have silver/goldish polo though, which is currently carting a student around.

Red and and dark blue, I also like. But on my boskar, white is my preferred colour.

There are some colours I find impractical, either because they show scratches, dust & dirt very easily or because of the vehicle heating up a lot more, e.g. dark blue and black.

Certain colours don't suit a certain type of vehicle, I couldn't imagine a bright red or yellow Landcruiser or Patrol, yet I had a red Alfa Romeo. That Alfa wouldn't have looked good in sand beige, either.

I really liked the sand beige metallic Amarok and think their grey metallic looks good, too.

Certain vehicle - colour combinations just work and some don't, I think.

We once had a dark red metallic colored car, was the one involved in the most bumper bashings of all the cars we owed. It is just not as visible as brighter/lighter colored cars.

I draw the line at inside of worm green and 1970s metallic red brown.

I don't mind whether it's white, silver, gunmetal etc. Whatever doesn't look odd on a particular car because some are more colour sensitivie than others.

I think the combination of the car is much more important than the actual colour.

Some cars look great in certain colours and others look just ridiculous.

No very important, as long as its a quality paint.

Currently have my Touareg in midnight black with black tinted windows - can't see in from outside unless you press your face on the window- it was not by choice as I bought second hand, was a bit apprehensive with the color set up at first but it has it advantages and it grown on me.

as mentioned black show dirt, dust, scratches easily. daytime running LED lights takes care it being visible.

White seems to be the popular choice in SA. Ironically in Europe, white paint automatically cheapens resale of any car- least desirable color.

Because Im too poor to be able to buy new, the used car's specs and condition trumps the colour each time.

EXCEPT for red. I wont even look at a red car. When I was a lighty (passenger) I was in three car crashes, all those cars were red.
Its my one and only superstition.

I dont even wear red clothes cos of that

I prefer white , but a lot of my vehicles was red because it was a good deal, maybe red is not that popular. . . anyways, I have acclimatized to red by now.

From a safety point stay away from black,charcoal,silver/grey and some reds. From a climate point the dark colors with dark interior.

My boskar sand or light-green or white.

Current boskar silver and show scratches badly.Otherwise nice and with DLR.

Prefer plain white (not that silly pearl metallic stuff)

I dont do dark coloured cars - just too hot in SA when parked in the sun for a hour or 3, and it never looks really clean and shows every little imperfection from a mile away.

I really like Land Cruiser bakkie sand beige. Then again it would look silly on a BMW.

I like white and silver. VW Polo comes out in a grey-ish white and then more and more cars show p these days in a non-metallic dark grey (more charcoal I think) which quite tickles my fancy. But I don't buy new so it'll be ages before I can have one of those...

White is really boring, but best if you choose to blend in with the Herd in SA.

White has always been good. Visible, easy to touch up scratches, etc.
However, white is typically stolen more because its so common, therefore easy to hide in the crowd.

My current car is "bronze", and whilst I had my doubts at first, its nice because it doesn't really show the dust.

White is my first choice when buying new, If the rest of the world wants to follow my choice, I'm fine with it
