    Default Replacing the Front Diff

So I had a major leak on the front diff, and before I realized I had already driven with the oil completely leaked out. Now I've been told the whole diff needs to be replaced (which makes sense to me). However, the guy who looked at it says that to order a new diff from over seas will end up being over R100 000. I know diffs are expensive, but that seems way too high. Am I wrong? What should I expect to pay for a brand new front diff?

    That's crazy but sounds right.

I am sure you can just replace the internals and not the complete diff?

Did you damage it and Broke the housing? for all the oil to leak out over a long period will be noticed with stains under car / diff unless you have special plates under that have no weep holes , I had a rear diff on my XJ go many years ago , had it fixed but was like 5k , but that was 20 years ago
As mentioned what wrangler is this , perhaps another make may work from the used market

Yep, American SUV will have either second hand parts or something new. R100,000 is just ridiculous, you could even get a brand new gear kit and shafts from Zone for less than that.

You can have front diff replaced much cheaper than the quoted 100k. Your indy is smoking you.

Plenty of Sahara diffs lying around.

Yep, and apart from that, a diff really only has limited parts to replace.

Basically 4 bearings, crown wheel and pinion, some spider gears and some small shafts.

I'd upgrade to a lokka or something similar while I was about it.

I reckon R20k-R30k at the nearest diff recon specialist in Pinetown?
