Hi all. My 2005 VX 4.0 Prado 120 with almost 254 000 km’s on the clock has a leaking steering rack. The way I see it I have 1 of 3 options.

1) New steering rack from Toyota @ R 34 853.00 plus fitment cost.
2) After-market steering rack (Google search) ± R 10 000.00 plus fitment cost.
3) Get new seals and o rings and have the steering rack repaired – not sure what the cost will be.

Has anyone done option 2 or 3 before? Can an old steering rack be “resealed”, or will it start leaking again due to inner wear? How much inner wear is there actually on a steering rack, or may it have started leaking because of age, it is a 2005 model? Any suggestions on who will be able to do such a job in the Pta region? Saw this YouTube video on how it is done – not that I am intending to do it myself https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlHGcapgQFA
Any further advice, please.
