Default Small trailer for a roof top tent.

I am looking at buying a small trailer to put a rooftop tent on top of. I was thinking of the jurgens LT range or the venter leisure range. The reason for the small trailer is mainly budget and I do not intend on doing any heavy off road trips. Mainly Kruger and Marakele and similar camping locations. I had purchased the rtt for the bakkie but find it a bit of a schlep to pack up each morning you want to go out. I do not want to put too much into the trailer as my Ranger is fairly well fitted out and serves the purpose well, I have water, draws, fridge etc.
Any suggestions on the choice of trailer?
    Will be appreciated.

Very happy with my Venter Savuti.

You get the normal and the XL with the front slider.

It's basically a luggage trailer, so it remains versatile.

Thank you I will look at that as I said the venter range is very good quality wise as well.

Depending on your needs, have a look at the Town & Country range too. The 205

It's also got plenty of space with a collapsible tail gate and is R15-16k cheaper than the Venter. If you literally just need something to plonk your tent on, and you are only doing the odd gravel road, that would be my choice.

Why not contact Heinz (on the forum) and look at the new Metalian Genie. The Genie is an awesome piece of kit with amazing finishes that comes in at a bare bones price of around R45k. That is before you add the extras which are not absolutely essential. My dad sold his Oryx at the start of the year and we now bought a full spec Genie to use on our trips. They have made plenty improvements since the first iteration and its now awesome. Sub 750kg trailer with some nice touches like monocoque design and mostly stainless steel.

This is one of the first Gen Genie's and I think it belongs to a forum member. There is now a door on both sides, the nosecone has been modified, you can spec a full built in kitchen. Add some stuff to it as you go if price needs to be kept low.

    Cheers

If that is really R45k, then thats a very nice looking option.

I see the Venters are now R38k, which is much more than when I bought it. I think I paid R40k including the Tentco tent which was R12K.

Support the Genie as choice because you can also go to the sea for holidays and it would rust less than the other recommendations and the side entry to the trailer. It is not nice to lift the trailer lid everytime you want something inside. I changed from a venter to a Conqueror due to the ease of use. Enjoy the search.

Just to support the Venter, mine literally lives across from beach and in 4 years no rust.

If you are this way inclined rather go for the 120. The 75 weighs as much as the 120, but it is not braked, so you can barely load anything before it reaches GWM

Thank you guys for your valued input into my question I am now I left with the decision which will be made quite soon. Although I thought it would be easy to decide which trailer to take has now left me wondering I will have to look at my budget and maybe go a bit more because I think some of the suggestions have been good. I failed to tell you that I have had numerous trailers in the past and all of them have been discussed already I've had the XT 120 which I loved I had the xt65 and then the last one was the Jurgen camplite. I just want something simple and that does not entail too much setup that is the reason for the trailer with rooftop tent which means I can just set up in minutes and not worry about the trouble of setting up. The whole idea of the quick setup is to allow me to do Kruger in two to three weeks north to south South to North spending a few days in each camp. I have done this before with the rooftop tent on the bakkie but then I was a little bit younger and was able to do it quite easily.

    Hi Ettiene.

My opinion for what you want to do is the Venter Savuti like the guys mentioned, or the XT 75. With Both of them you can still load Jerry cans and gas bottles. I had a friend who utilized a normal luggage trailer, and the lid wont take the weight well and the wheel bearings and axle takes a beating or gravel roads. Rather opt for something with 14 - 15 " wheels, you can even look into Venters voyager series for your purpose (its built stronger and the wheels are a bit bigger) - To me Venter remains one of the best trailers ever built.

    Happy hunting.

I had a venter savuti. Not a bad little trailer. Had to replace after 5 years. The A frame is the problem. Go have a look at how and where it attaches to the trailer.
I then got an Echo 2. Very nice trailer.
Sold that (for personal reasons, nothing wrong with the trailer. But Echo DOES NOT have after sales service!!!)

I would go for the Metalian.

Unless your licence is an issue, I would rather look for a braked trailer with GWM above 750 kg. Many of the more durable trailers with sub 750 kg GWM don't leave you with a lot of payload and the cheaper Venters might not do so well on gravel roads.
The Metalian Genie might be the exception here.
Once you got a trailer and the space, chances are good you will eventually want to make use of it.
So rather look at something like the XT120 than the XT75. I would also prefer a braked trailer, specially for travel on gravel roads, but also for tar. It's just nicer.

So after long search finally found what I was looking for as I said in the beginning I was looking for a small trailer that I could put my roof top tent on top of. I settled on a LT 660 by jurgens. I have great plans and will keep you posted

Thank you to all for your valued input it is all much appreciated
