Default What are your non negotiables when buying a 4x4?

I have gone through this process of buying a new fourbe, and wondered about my choice. As you do at this stage, I suppose.

My wife asked me after I told her about the deal, she asked: "Why the FJ?"

And I had to step back and think... I mean I have been considering various 4x4s over the last 6 or 7 months, as most of you know about my various threads. And I still had to think a while to give her an answer.

So what are your 4 top must have's in a 4be?

    Is it safety?
    Is it ability?
    Is it comfort?
    Or is it tech?
    Fuel efficiency?
    Is it a certain brand?

    What say you?

PS: Only list 4, to make it definitive. And it does not have to be those listed above.
List any 4 items that are for you, at this moment the most important items when buying a new vehicle

    Reliability
    7 Seats
    Low Range
    Decent Fuel Consumption

(the 5th would be all the modcons - but if the above 4 are present, 5th will be there).

Enough space for a Fridge (cold meat and beer is very important)

    -Reliability
-capability off road (this knocks off a HUGE amount of contenders, I wonít mention names/types as that will cause arguments Iím sure )
-Space for packing (both inside and on roof). I donít like trailers.
-power (a reason the crd patrol only lasted a few months with me)

It has to be a Toyota. I don't do oil spots on my paving and frequent engine changes. And I need low range.

1 and 4 probably go together.

Both the WK and XJ cover the abovementioned points, even though their development was 2 decades apart.

    Safety
    Ability
    Fuel Efficiency
    Comfort

    In that order.

However, reliability is not one of the choices, but if it was, it would be right at the top of the list.

Must have a green oval badge on it with all the reliability issues, oil leaks, huge gaps between panels, huge crowd of people who tells you it is a piece of shite etc. At least I know they can flex and get up and over everything you throw at it.

Good Tow rating (at least 3000kgs)
    Low range
    Okay Clearance
Ideally LR style of old with ability to select LR on tar for manuvering boats and such without selecting centre diff lock. (This is a nice to have)
Would not consider anything below Euro NCAP 4 star these days as there are a lot of good choices with this rating.

I have different things i look for, depending on intended use. So to compare apples with apples:

    A 4x4 for me.

    1)Low range
2)Diff lock or the ability to add it at least. See point 3.
    3)Availability of parts and accessories
    4)As few electronics as possible

    A 4x4 suitable for family/daily
    1)Reliability
    2)Safety
    3)Fuel efficiency
4)Sufficient seating for 4 with comfort
