Default Navara turbo on and off

    Morning guys
Was just wondering if anyone has had issues with the navara turbos.
Mine seems to stop working after some driving. However I can't tell you how long into my drive until it stops. Sometimes 5 mins sometimes it doesn't stop working so it's very random. But when it does stop. I usually switch the Bakkie off then restart then it works again.....

Is there anyone that has an electronic workshop manual for this beast... It's a 2011 2.5 turbo diesel... I think it's the D40 motor.

    Thanks

Sounds like the "boost controller" is acting up. As far as I know, the models after 2010 all had electron actuators on the turbo. This actuator could be faulty. Do you have double cab or king cab? Is it 2x4 or 4x4? There are variances.

Also, D40 stands for the model (Navara). The engine is a YD25 engine.

Hey thanks for the quick response. Is a double cab 4x4. What's the difficulty in replacing or fixing the actuator and is it costly.

Watter navara het jy? 2x4, 4x4, kc of dc?
Daar is 3 verskillende yd25 engines net op navara alleen, met 3 verskillende turbos

We had the same problem with our 2011 140 kw Navara, turned out it was a loose connection to the electric VGT actuator. After a strong connection was made the problem disappeared and hasn't returned for over 15 000 kms.

How did you get to that conclusion... Just trial and error fault finding process of elimination....

The Blue One has the round bumper. That's the 120/140kw.

The white one has the square bumper. 106/128kw.

My son and I have lots of experience with turbo problems in our 128kw, which we still have, then when a similar definite turbo issue happened with our 140 kw we started looking at the turbo first. The 140 turbo is sited much higher up and the electric fittings going to it are easily accessible so I firstly jiggled them around and there was an immediate response. But a little later the problem returned and I made dead sure the connection was really tight and secure.

    Okay.

have them look for temperature sensor on the turbo side. Those went twice on mine. 3rd time it was fixed for good, 35kkm no issues.

Appreciate everyone's input... I'm just a bit concerned that I switch off then start straight away and it's right.

That makes it sound more like the vehicle is going in to limp mode. It may in fact be another problem such as the EGT sensor, Suction control calve, EGR Valve, FPR, overboosting etc etc. Plenty things that could put the vehicle in to limp mode. Restarting the car clears limp mode until the problem shows again.

I'd say get it to Nissan and have the computer scanned. If its going into limp mode the computer will have recorded the reason for it and should point you straight to the problem. Otherwise you could do the computer reset and read the code that it spits out with the blinking engine light but I can't remember exactly how to interpret the blinking. Last time I went to Nissan they scanned it for free. At worst they will charge R400 or R500 and if you have the problem rectified there they will waive that fee entirely.
