    Default Dishonest ford dealer

My colleague is in the process of trading his ford ranger 2x4 in on a new 4x4. He has done the deal, and was trading in his bakkie through one of the online buyers, and they have just contacted him to tell him that they cannot proceed with the offer as his bakkie shows three services at Ford Woodmead (which he did) and another 2 at a dealer in pretoria (which he didn't do).

So now he is stuck in mid deal, because of fraud within the ford dealer network. This is a very poor show. I have told him to escalate this to ford head office as he was busy dealing with the two DP's involved. Wonder how many other people are driving around in bakkies that have someone else making use of their in-plan services?

He will also open a fraud case with the midrand SAP for what it is worth.

My one friend is in the car trade. He says this can easily happen, one person types in a wrong digit on a VIN number and this happens. Not necessarily fraud, they should pic it up when either of the 2 do their next service.

Maybe Ford told the dealers to do it and then hide it from the customers?

Exactly, probably to get out of honoring warranty claims against engine replacements.

Sounds like after a bit of pressure they are reversing these claims against ford and cleaning up the service record.

I would suggest it is worth finding out what the service history is on your vehicle periodically to make sure this does not happen to you. Especially prior to trade in.

That's a bit of a rough claim - he never said it was a 3.2 IT may have been a 2.2!

You guys are a bit tough on Ford, when you buy a Ranger you actually join their R & D team..........you are now a test driver doing real live evaluating.

Don't want to conflate issues here, but that would have been my preference. They do seem to be nice wagons and I am sure they will hold their value better than a similar ford.

With my previous Toyota I had the same problem. I would get reminders for services with my registration number but not the same model. I think it is mostly typos when cars get booked in for services.
