Default How do you fill your van's water tank?

Many vans these days have built-in water tanks but how do you fill your tank? A regular garden hose gives a plastic taste but I've found even "food grade" hoses tend to leave a bit of a taste. What type of hose do you use or do you have another trick to share?

I put hose in hole. I open tap. Tank fills. I close tap. Off I go...

    Same here.

Also some sites don't have a tap close to the caravan, which raises a bit of a challenge getting the water via an intermediate container to the caravan when staying long.
We initially used some jerries, but now I just mount a 45 liter frontrunner tank on the car's roof rack. Fill up at the tap using tap's pressure, empty into the caravan's tank through gravity.

To be honest, regardless of plastic taste. If you in a non fresh water area, plastic taste water will taste like clean fresh mountain spring water.

With the quality of drinking water in SA, does it really matter if your water tastes a bit like plastic?

I use a stainless steel hose like a flexible shower hose. Also have 3 x 10m expandable cloth hoses. If tap is too far I carry water in a 25L and use a blue 12V pump to pump each into the tank. Luckily my tank is only 55L and DIY with a toilet valve so it cannot over fill. The toilet valve is between the normal hose fitting on the side of the caravan and my tank.

I read that some of these single stage water filters take away the hose pipe taste and some people use them when filling, but personally I haven't bothered yet. Just poor my whisky a bit stiffer to mask the plastic taste.

I use the black plastic pipe as used for an irrigation system. Works like a charm and no odd taste or odour.

Is there anybody here using one of these - I am interested to investigate (cause I don't drink whisky ), especially when filling from a less reputable source, think it would be nice to filter the water before it gets into the tank, or is it just better to filter the water as you use it?

When filling up, I let the first few litres go to the garden and then there is very little plastic taste, if any. Also add a few teaspoons of salt to the water tank.

That is very important. The water lying stagnant in the pipe needs to get out first before filling up the tank.

I guess I've been doing this all this time. I roll down the hose and put it in the flower bed next to the trailer, then I walk back and open the tap and then back to go fill it up so the water runs for a while.

While back I had some smell to my water and remembered some drops I used in the Companion. Luckily still available from ODW - Aqua Salveo. One dose and no more smell or taste.

Had the same problem with a new hose: cannot (impossible to) drink the water. Moved over to an old hose and let it run for a while before filling.
After about 3 years the new pipe stopped releasing the taste. This new pipe is about 5 hours in the sun very day. Somebody mentioned to me leave the pipe filled with water in the sun: the heat will bake out the odours..........

There are woven hoses at the 4x4 shops - these could be suitable? These hoses come with Gardena fittings. (Woven: correct jargon? Same roll up pipes/hoses the Fire Brigade uses)

Sometimes the plastic tank is the culprit and not the hose, this is my experience
