    hi guys

i currently have 265/60/18 on my v6 amarok, with seikel suspension, what will be a better option? 265/65/18 or 255/70/18 (if u even get such a size) 255/65/18, i am thinking 265/65/18

i am happy but i would like a bit more tire when deflated, doing lots of gravel and sand driving. never had issues with the 60 profile.

CAnt comment on the profiles you are looking at but I swear by 265/70R17. This is the biggest you can fit without more substantial modifications. Don't know if that is even an option on V6 (calliper size?) I would have happily looked at narrower tyres say 245 with the same diameter, however you really need to look at pricing.

Some sizes are relatively common and thus relatively cheap, and other that you think may be cheap are stuffing dear. Go and do some online browsing and see what sizes are popular.

17's do fit on the v6 Stephen. 265/70/17 would be the exact same diameter as 265/65/18. I've read stories of huge increases in consumption and rubbing issues going up to this size, others say no problem.

Okay so for around 310 000km I have had no suspension mods other than Bilstein shocks fitted ages back. I guess around 100k? Anyway first set of 265/70 r 17 tyres fitted at around 45k km where Maxxis Bravo AT 700. These were great and I recall getting around 140k km with them. They were quite a square sidewall profile and did rub the chassis very slightly at full lock under articulation. Never saw it as an issue and never felt the need to do anything about it as it was hardly ever noticeable. It just rubbed a little paint off the chassis. That was it.

Next set were Perilli, also AT and also 265/70R17. I think scorpion ATR or something like that. I forget. They did not have as square a sidewall, and did not touch anywhere under any circumstances. They did not last as long as the Maxxis, but were great in all conditions and very good on wet tar.

Current set are Apollo HT also in 265/70 R17 and also do not touch anywhere, although I recently did a slight lift, but this was long after the current set were fitted, and they did not rub before the lift.

So basically some will rub very slightly if they have a very square sidewall, most will not. BY the way I have standard VW rims so no aftermarket trickery there.

I can't say I notice a great increase in fuel consumption, however the amarock is a massive vehicle with a huge frontal area, so it is very sensitive to speed. I regularly get around 8l/100iish if I travel around 100km/hr. Push it up to 120 and you do pay a price, closer to 10l/100km.

I think the compromise is worth it as you have much better ground clearance and I have bene running these so long, I don't notice any difference in tractability. I am sure at the time I fitted them I did notice that 6th does not pull as well on the freeway, but with a 6 sp box there are more than enough gears to always be comfortable. Bear in mind mine is the 90Kw donkey and the V6 will probably pull like a mule with this side tyre on.

    morning Stephan

yes i know the V6 can take 17" rims but not gone spend the money on 17" rims unless i get it very cheap. My V6 have the Seikel Dessert lift kit and i have Pirelli Scorpions on, size 265/60/18. According to the Seikel website u can fit 265/65/18 if u fit the Seikel Dessert Kit. The problem is here in Namibia our options are not as wide as in SA and even worst if u in the smaller towns up North. Pirelli Scorpions ATR BG Coopers u dont get for under 4000 a tire. i can get Nankang for just over 3000 a tire. Grabbers and Dunlop according to suppliers here u don't get in 265/65/18 size. I just want a bit more tire and will also be better when deflate as we doing Khaudum in July, but the 60 profile and pirelli tires haven't let me down and i am about on 60 000 on the set with say another 10 000 maybe. but yes will still do a bit of searching.

So this confirms the V6 Amarok can fit 17 inch rims over the brakes?

Thats great news I've been looking at these wheels but, it seems we only get them in 17 inch in SA

Got quoted R2980 per tyre fitted and balanced on the Dunlop AT3G in 265/60/18. Also seems like a good tyre
