My FJ buying experience

On the 14th of April I placed an order for an FJ Cruiser at a dealer who will remain anonymous for now.
After the whole trade quote and confirmation of deal was done, I submitted an offer to purchase and was told that the car would be available before the end of May - I have this on a WhatsApp conversation.

On my enquiry yesterday, the salesman stated that he has not been given a delivery date as yet, and cannot provide me with a confirmed date..

What can you do?
Steel is such a problem now, we cannot continue with some planned construction work because suppliers can not tell us when we will get the steel.
Tire suppliers still have stock, but they are worried about the lack of stock en route.
4x4 Mega world assured me in April that they could fit OME suspension on the FJ for me in a week, I placed the order , they are still waiting for stock.

In your shoes I would probably look to exploit the sudden boost in available FJ's on Autotrader, but the prices are quite high.

Life's too short to be on a waiting list for a vehicle.

Id look around for something that is available. A quick search for 2021 FJs brings up a small handful of FJs. Id go there.

Unless he had it in hand(obviously not) or had confirmation that it was on the water then he was taking a fat chance, mine took two months from the order going on the system to arrival.
Don't forget that it comes off the ship in Durban and still goes for holomogation/checks before transportation to the dealer.......he was being too optimistic, he should have 'promised less and delivered more' as they say!!

Surely they must have visibility of stock availability and allocations through the supply chain?

Shipping is an issue though.

Hedge (hhahaha) your bets and look at what is available immediately on Autotrader and see if something ticks the boxes.

There has been many articles and case studies with Toyota on supply efficiency and planning.

They might not be able to be deliver as soon as possible, but they will be able to tell you exactly when/where the unit will be available.

So it seems like salesman or branch stuffed up with your order. One thing to receive an OTP and knowing when supply is due, but another to place the order.

Friendly visit to the sales manager or DP might give you the reason for the delay, but no FJ.

I will wait. Looking at the current Toyota Tax on 2nd hand units you will not really get the value you would from a brand new vehicle

Well I have a client that signed the 11th of February for his 2 Jeeps and delivery time of 6 weeks. Last Monday he asked for his premiums for the vehicles and said it will arrive this week. I phoned the dealer to get the Vin no on the 2 different vehicles according to colour and I asked him when will the vehicles be delivered. He said the first 1 will hopefulle arrive this week but he did not know whether the second one was on the ship yet. He is waiting for that confirmation.
So please make sure about facts before selling chickens while they have not hatched yet.
