    Default H4 Bulb Recommendations

    Some back ground history:

I used to have LED spots with a light bar, light quality blinded you up close. I have removed the light bar due to legal reasons (my personal preference, let's not debate it) and swapped the LED spots for my old Hella Comets. Problem was the Hella's were like candles, so I bought a HID kit and upgraded them, now they are fantastic.

Thing is my main lights are like match sticks.

I want a white/ blueish light, and one that is decent and bright without the need for my spots. Brighter the better.

There are a few brands I have come across, but would like some recommendations from the forum.

I have always used Osram globes as they offer me better performance than oem yellow bulbs. On the D40 navara's you need all the help you can get to improve lighting.

I installed the Night Breaker unlimited when they came out. It works well
there has been 2 newer ones released since then

    Phillips also good, pricey

I went on a mission this weekend to find Philips Xtreme+130 bulbs.
I failed. Couldn't even find the 100% ones in H7.
Landed up buying Hella because they were better than nothing.
I swear by the Philips though.

have heard that the more expensive one are good R1500+ kits, the cheapy ones just cause a flood effect blinding oncoming traffic and providing less light.

I also have seen a lot of these cheapy LED h4 bulbs, but I don trust them to be of good quality, and usually these dont last very long.

Could be an issue when driving far at night and they both fail. Usually they drive these LEDs as hard as they can for maximum light, but that shortens their lifespan significantly.

Also these LEDs seem all to have rather large cooling fins, some with small fans inside, but that is the issue - on the drivers side of my ranger there is not a lot of space behind the headlight, since the window washer bottle is attached there.

I've never had joy with Night breakers in the past. Yes they work as advertised but they are unreliable.
    Original globes last for years.

Night breakers globes never seemed to make it past a few months.

    Strange yes.

I put in a set in my run around Atos and it's been going for around 6 years now without fail.

had similar experience on the first gen Night breakers on my Isuzu. Replaced it with newer set and lasted +-5years and the ones in my Nav is going about 2 years in head lamps and spotties.

Good topic. I posted in the toyota page a while back. I ended up changing to H4 which was 50% stronger on dims and brights [so they said] Cant recall the brand name, a strange name, but they said they sell loads of them every month, cost me R550 for the pair.

    So here are my thoughts:

Yes, they are brighter, shine further, BUT it is weird, like very strange, it seems as if the white light is less 'dense'
I drove back at night the other day and i almost hit 2 x guys in the centre lane of the highway, who should not have been there but i only saw them at the last minute.

Maybe a better make H4, i dont know, what i do know is i am not 100% happy. It is a weird light. I dont mind 'yellow' light, my bulbs are blue, but they shine white, but as i said, it still seems as if it just does not have 'depth' no matter how i adjust the up and down tilt. Driving around town at night is also weird, you cant see your own lights as the streetlights 'white light' is the same, maybe i must get used to it....Not sure. I guess there is a massive difference with the new Hilux, hid, led all that stuff, compared to my R550 bulbs lol.

Just changed the R2,500 LEDs as one died. replaced with Crystalview H4 from phillips...as you can see the LED is far superior.

Sorry for the chair...it has no impact on the performance.
