The TC on the new Jimny is not very impressive.

I was thinking the same. Hard to tell from the videos but it almost seemed as if he let go just a tad to early for the TC to start doing it's thing. But then I agree about the lockers. In my opinion it is much better to lock before hand than to allow spining before TC kicks in. Obviously some TC systems are a lot better than others.

The TC disengages on the Hummer when in 4L and the lockers are engaged.

The advantage is the 4:10 ratio linked to the 5.3lt power. The Cruiser and Patrol appear to need to be reved to get the power required to get up but that increases the torque and spin.

My experience with the Hummer is to leave the accelerator alone as much as possible or use L2 imstead of L1 and let the ratio and torque work best.

I wish I could have joined this outing.

I am a bit more lucky than you. With the Rubicon in 4L the front wheels will still have "TC" active if I lock the rear diff only. When I lock both rear and front then the "TC" is obviously disengaged but if I do not engage the lockers at all then the front and rear "TC" is active. My ratio is also 4.1 with very low gearing:

New JL Rubicon Auto Gear Ratios:

    • 1st - 4.71
    • 2nd - 3.13
    • 3rd - 2.10
    • 4th - 1.67
    • 5th - 1.28
    • 6th - 1.00
    • 7th - 0.84
    • 8th - 0.67

    Axle Ratio 4.00
    Low Range ratio 4.1

Old JK Rubicon Auto Gear Ratios:

    • 1st - 3.59
    • 2nd - 2.19
    • 3rd - 1.41
    • 4th - 1.0
    • 5th - 0.8

    Axle Ratio 4.00
    Low Range ratio 4.1

The TC logic on the HUMMER works similarly. on the gearing, also 3.59 on First gear but 4.56 axle ratios, i.e. for the 3.7-litre Straight-5.
