Bit of dust ingress around bottom of rear door seals. Did some rough roads today around Morgan bay and the defender cruised everything. Small rattle on rear door, window door trim has a loose dart clip that pops out.

Starting to sound that it might be a real defender.

I have an annoying dust ingress issue with my 150 that I've failed to completely trace. So that's not a defender only issue, just saying.

Have a look at the decompression valve flaps(equalizer vents?) in the rear of the boot behind the trimmings. It might be twisted for some reason or not sealing properly. I have seen some not installed correctly by the factory.

Figured out the guys who did the smash and grab film damaged the dart clips. They had to redo the film twice so this part was removed 3 times.

OK thanks for the pointers. I will take a look. Hadn't explored this. Behind which trimmings is this.

After 4000km's, no issues with the new one. LR replaced the dart clip and all good. Dust ingress being checked.

Did a 6 hour deep clean yesterday! About 100kg of mud came off.

Average fuel consumption sitting at 9.4l/100km. Coming back via East London, 10 hour trip with average speed of 115km/h.

Wife commented how much better the Defender is than the LC200 for this type of trip. Drives better, brakes better, more comfortable, quieter, smoother.

A good purchase Bruce. In your opinion how does the Boot Area compare with the D4 - is it a similar depth.

    Many Thanks

On the inside in the boot. You will have to remove the carpet panels to see it.

The D4 boot quite a bit bigger. Not sure of actual litre difference. No big deal for me as only two of us. With trip to Transkei, I folded seats flat and had lots of space for dive gear, fridge, suitcases, grocery box, fishing tackle etc

Interesting design: the second row has been moved to the back about 10cm (I guess) which reduces the boot space. It means that the seats folds flat like the Disco without a complicated mechanism or reducing the seat height. I am starting to like it as it gives n luxury/roomy feel for second row passengers.

if you install the metal luggage rack, you can stack the boot space easily when carrying 4/5 passengers while having a see through space above the spare wheel.

First issue cropped up on Saturday. DRL on headlight failed so new headlight it is. It is the outer ring of the headlight that should be on.

Does'nt it switch off when the indicator is used? Maybe a relation to that?

No, the whole headlight turns off when indicator on and you turn in that direction. . This is just the DRL standing still. They replaced it and now works correctly.

Did they have to replace the entire unit to "fix" DRL not working?

Seems a common thing now with lights that use LED's, individual globes are often not replaceable, you have to chuck an otherwise good unit and replace the whole thing, often at outrageous cost if not under warranty.

Yes, whole headlight as it is an enclosed unit.

Wonder how much they cost per side?
I have heard some Merc LED headlights come in around R40k a side.

I was too scared to ask.

Another very stupid thing is the service interval.....hold your breath...32000km's or two years or you can have it done sooner if the onboard computer reckons you have done loads of offroad and dusty driving.

I will do mine at 5000km's. Cost is R3727.13 incl vat. Labour is R1100 for 1 hour. Oil is R1800 and filter R210.

32000kms seems like false economy on such a costly vehicle, even if using high end synthetic oils. I suppose the bean counters know the potential effects of that decision will only become apparent out of warranty so it makes good financial sense.

Almost R4k for an oil and filter change, that's not great. Would they be able to detect if you did the in between changes diy?
