I will do mine at 5000km's. Cost is R3727.13 incl vat. Labour is R1100 for 1 hour. Oil is R1800 and filter R210.
I did my amarok initially every 7.5k while it was on the 15k dealer service interval and then every 10k when it was out of the VW clutches. I suspect ever 10k will be fine if you use good quality oils. I have been using Ravenol and am very happy with their high end oils, and they have kept the amarok running sweetly until its recent water issue.

I think a lot depends on how you drive it. Lots of short, stop start trips = more frequent services. Lots of heavy duty towing and dusty roads = more frequent services. Long highway miles you could probably get away with 20 or 30k service intervals.

The service interval seems to always be a fight between marketing (long intervals), Service Dept/Dearler (short service intervals) and engineers (usually based on typical user and oil analysis.)

I recall seeing this data at MAN and they were looking at something like 40k service intervals, but that was with a much bigger sump and they probably hit that milage every month or two?

You can change your own oil, all you need is a pneumatic extractor:

No idea but then you can get it done locally in any event.

Same as Toyota told me the same thing for the 200 and the FJ.

Saw this and would save me R1100 but I would have to dispose of the oil.

The oil is Castrol Edge 0W50. I have not been able to find it locally.

LR wouldn’t know whether or not you have self changed the oil.

By the way the headlight cost was R24K.

Why does one have to do this outside of dealer guidelines?

My logic tells me to change oil more often than what they recommend.

Far from me to defend a LR, but in terms of lights this is not expensive. Lights on my old Forester and E90 BMW are comparable.

Lol, was thinking the same thing, the LR headlamp assembly is relatively cheap by current standards.

Not "proper" headlights for a Defender, rather headlights for a "proper" Defender. Jokes as aside, Modern hi tech headlights are really brilliant, but they do come at a price, at R24K the Defender lights are not that badly priced.

yeah, that's why I don't change the oil either, but an indie will be cheaper?

Are you sure its 0w50 and not 0w20?

Sorry, 0W30. I got a quote from an Indie for R3200.

Bear in mind that this is also the adaptive matrix headlight.
