Woolworths, Thokoman and YumYum both contain hydrogenated vegetable fats = trans fats. Very unhealthy.
The only reason they have to add stuff like soy oil and rape seed oil is that they have drained the natural peanut oil out of the pulp and sell it bottled.
The dry, horrible pulp then gets mixed up with cheaper oils, which are less healthy to begin with, but then need to be hydrogenated to achieve the required consitency and to ensure the oils don't separate.

Of course, a natural peanut butter without added sugar and salt would appear less tasty than the chemically engineered versions, but I take that any time over consuming those amounts of trans fats.

    Absolutely this! ^^^

Cheap seed oils that were originally developed as lubricants for heavy machinery at the beginning of last century were then approved for human consumption, labelled as 'vegetable oils' and mixed to any processed **** going as they add taste, bulk and calories.

Keep the hell away out of anything that has anything other that peanuts in the ingredients list...

And this is Black Cat, the most famous brand. Anyone know what has happened?

We have been using this from Checkers, got this bottle out the cupboard to check it, made in India, and a lot of oil on top, more than I remember Click image for larger version.

Those whose say Woolies are crazy expensive: what is the price of a big bottle of their brand of PB? What is the price of Black Cat at Woolies compared to Checkers? Come on, tell me.

BTW I thought PB and peanuts are the devils spawn for the keto crowd Why you eating peanut butter, Olyfboer?
I reached goal weight and carried on going down. Started to look anorexic. Doc said that keto is not natural once at goal weight and you have to take some carbs in to stabilise the weight. I still avoid any sugar. Now it's a balancing act to stay at goal weight.

If you look closely, you are referencing Black Cat's smooth peanut butter, with added salt & sugar.
Look up the salt free & sugar free one, it's zero trans fats:
    https://www.fatsecret.co.za/calories...-butter/1-tbsp

Woolworths smooth peanut butter lists under ingredients hydrogenated vegetable oil (palm fruit). Hydrogenated oils are hidden trans fats.
    https://www.woolworths.co.za/prod/Fo...g/_/A-20026660

YumYum smooth peanut butter lists under ingredients hydrogenated vegetable oils (cotton seed, soybean and rape seed). = trans fat

Thokoman peanut butter lists under ingredients hydrogenated vegetable oil (palm fruit / kernel).

Just make your own, peeps. Then you can have it how you like it.

It's just smushed up peanuts. Easy peasy.

I was just about to suggest this. Never tried it before but thinking I should.

Yup. You need a table spoon or so of neutral oil to get it going.

It goes through several changes. Crumbs, fine crumbs, a paste and then a smooth puree.

My juicer is actually an extruder, so I put it through there. But you can do it with a food processor too.

Be careful you can burn out the motor. I nearly did.
    Heat builds up.

Check your handbook to see if its OK

The accountants drive down the manufacturing costs. Soon the real peanuts will probably be replaced with imported synthetic plastic ones from China if the accountants have their way.

Realistically I do like Black Cat the most. As a general rule I prefer glass containers for food and drinks to plastic ones and obviously glass is more expensive but it preserves better.

Majority of times the Woolies PB is actually less expensive than Blackcat, I also buy the no sugar no salt.
As for the keto, in my opinion if I really need a snack a spoon of PB is better than a slice of bread, rusk or biscuit. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Many people have a chocolate as a cheat treat, I have a spoon of PB.
