    Default Botswana Pula

I am doing a short trip to Botswana starting next week.

Bidvest Bank tell me that there is no Pula cash in the country and nothing coming up.

My plan is to cross at Ramatlabama. Is there an ATM that will dispense Pula at the border post? Or is there another way of getting Pula in cash?

You will definately be able to draw cash once across the border.

you can also pay cross border fees etc by card, which is normally much easier. They mostly no longer accept rand for this, and if they do they shaft you on the exchange rate.

Just check with your bank regarding charges, some of the banks are seriously greedy with cross border cash withdrawal fees.

my suggestion would be take a few USD in smaller denominations, 1s 5s and 10s, and if you can’t use a credit card for a specific transaction, opt to pay with USD, or exchange USD for pula. You tend to get a more favourable rate when using USD rather than rand.

Piet, on the go again? Good for you!

The advice from Scheepers appears sound. Take some US$ for emergency use. Credit Cards, we always take both a Visa and Mastercard as some ATMs only accept certain cards, Visa most often. Be sure to let your bank know you will be using your cards in Botswana so that they are not blocked because of suspected theft.

    Enjoy.

Get a Capitec Card. R1 for all transcations in SADC countries. Not sure if a ATM withdrawl counts as a transcation, but for buying store items and diesel it works perfectly. you even get the notification sms from the bank to see the exact amount deducted

We had the same response from Bidvest in April tried Nedbank, no problem getting Pula.
In Dog Beers, I've only had one.
