Default Ford 3,2 manual vs auto

Can I please have your thoughts on purchasing either an Auto or Manual 2014 / 2015 3,2 4x4 ranger.

Input regarding the mechanics is what I am looking for (I am fully aware of the variances regarding driving and off-road ability).

Thus from a mechanical longevity point of view which option (Manual or Auto) would you choose and why if possible.

    thanks

Iíve got 2013 3.2 auto 4x4 d/c now just under 140 000km with no issues. I use to tow about 2 ton with a pleasure getting 7.5 km/l with speedocruise set at 127km/h. In town around 9km/l open road nearly 11km/l .For me the autobox is just a pleasure.

I'm not a mechanical whizz by any means but considering you are buying an older vehicle I would lean towards a manual. My understanding is that they are more easily serviced and therefore less costly to maintain.

As far as I know, most of the early popping turbos also happened on the auto box variants. This problem was resolved by swapping hoses but you never know what may have happened to your vehicle before the hose was changed

Thanks for the responses - i have heard some scary things about the Auto box (being very complicated to work on).
So my thoughts then would be that the manual should simpler!

Any more comments thoughts would appreciated.

Does the Ford auto transmission have a dipstick?
If so, and if the oil is the correct colour and clean and not smelly and if it drives fine, then why not.
    Manual boxes are so "yesterday".
If you want "simple", then you have to stay away from the common rail pump and injectors as well.

The manual 6 speed transmission is a Getrag (Ford) MT82, also found in the Mustang GT. There it has given some problems with gear levers getting stuck and bad grinding when shifting.

The automatic 6 speed transmission, also built by Ford, is based on a ZF design. Ford built the gearbox under licence. It's designed to for up to 800 NM torque.

    Read up on this https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum...Mazda-Problems!
Maybe there you can see, which gearbox seems more reliable.

Personally I think that a modern day automatic gearbox sort of protects itself against abuse. If I remember correctly the Ford 6 speed automatic does override gear selection by the driver, if necessary.

I have had a 3.2 manual sold at 116k km and now 94k km on my 3,2 auto....I wont drive manual ever again. Auto is better in every way, might be slightly heavier on juice but that is marginal

My 2015 3.2 4X4 Auto has done 160 000 hard farmwork km's.No issues at all.
Auto far superior to manual,we have manual 6 speed on the farm as well-I don't go near them, far to much effort

The final decision ended up being buying a 2,2 Manual - I could not find a decent 3,2 that did not have the engine replaced or gearbox overhauled (manual or Auto).

Will drive it for a while and see how it goes.
