Are you sure. I have heard that the brackets rip the metal because its so thin. I would not put it in the engine bay

Had mine in the Fortuner engine bay for 9 years over some pretty hectic terrain, no issues. The only reason I might not repeat is due to the heat and the way the deep cycle battery ages. I'm on my third, I treat them well, so think the heat is a factor.

You, after a lots and lots of research.

This way, when it bombs out in the middle of Mocambique, and takes your starter battery with it, you know how to fix it
And you get to learn some cool stuff.

Probably bad advice. Takes a lot of effort to go from layman to knowledgable enough to do it yourself. I'm not there yet.

(just my 2c worth, mostly TIC etc)

I am a huge Victron fan - my whole home runs off, essentially, Victron solar equipment. Quality kit built to last.

But I would also suggest you look at https://wrnd.co.za/ for the DC-DC unit. They are a local company making quality, well thought out kit.
I have an early version of their DC-DC in my 'tuna. Been working faultlessly for years now. Also has an input for solar panels built in.

The only other advice I would give is, if you are starting from scratch, consider using a Lithium battery.
he prices have dropped in recent years and the advantages are huge.
You can discharge to 15-20% with no risk to the longevity of the battery ( you should only drop a lead-acid battery to about 75-80% depending on how long you want it to last).
They are much lighter and much smaller for the same "usable" capacity.
If you ever want more storage you can just add another one in parallel without the internal resistance problems you get with different aged L/A batteries in parallel.

I agree, used them recently to install a BH plug and cable in the back of the Fortuner. Pricing was good and the work was of good quality (correct cable thickness used etc).
