Default Best all rounder 4x4 SUV

Hi all, I would like some inputs on the best all rounder SUV.

It will be used as a daily, towing camping trailer, long distance driving and also quite a bit of 4x4 activities.

To give some background on why this question.

    I currently own a 2000 Isuzu Frontier 4x4 fitted with a 3.1td Trooper engine (4JG2).
This vehicle is perfect for my 4x4 requirements, and was able to tow the camping trailer. I could also use it for long distance trips, and it was the perfect daily.
But, unfortunately the engine died on me.

    So I have 2 options:

    1. Fit a replacement engine in the Frontier, not yet sure which, as I am no longer fond of older diesel engines. And fitting a petrol engine would require alot of time, effort and cash....

    2. Sell the Frontier as is, and also sell my current daily vehicle which is a 2008 Lexus RX350 (Also used for long distance trips and can tow the camping trailer, but not meant for the brown stuff...).
And then buy something suitable for all my requirements.

I am leaning towards option 2, thus my question.

    Thanks in advance.

    What would your budget be?

A Pajero or Amarok is the correct answer...

A WK, XJ and a Ducati...

Looking at your location, Im assuming vehicle theft isnt such an issue as JHB etc?
Assuming the budget at the moment based on the vehicles to be sold, Id say the prev Fortuner d4d.

Maybe give some further preferences? There are so many good SUV's currently available one needs to narrow the field down a bit.

    About sums it up.

Any of the above is a good choice.

I drive a Pathfinder. Lots of power. Space. Practicality. 4x4. Fits my needs perfectly.
Only other one I've had dealings with is the Ford Everest. Also a very nice SUV, but the other options listed is just as capable.
I'm not going to even mention fuel consumption. Driving a 2ton SUV towing a 1ton caravan or trailer, you are always going to get less than preferred consumption.

I guess it now boils down to personal preference. What your likes and dislikes are in a car.

Everest for sure! 3.2 XLT 4WD

Secondhand prices are good, lots of power, amazing on and off road, can tow just about anything, lots of space, surprisingly fuel efficient, just enough luxury, awesome sound system

    Hi all,

Thanks for the quick replies...I am new to the Forum...and it seems I'll get alot of help here.

    Some more info:

    1. Budget - R200k max
    2. I would like to tow my camping trailer comfortably @130km/h
    3. I owned a 2015 Fortuner d4d (2x4) previously. Not too fond of it.
    4. I am leaning towards the Prado, but would like to get some outside opinions, as most of you will have much more experience.

    Thanks again.
