Default One Million Seven hundred Thousand KM - Anything out there that tops this Isuzu?

This Isuzu KB, aptly called Road Runner, has 1.7+ million kilo's on the clock and counting.
I have watched over the years as the number changes as another 100 thousand km rolls over.

Is there anything out there that tops these kilo's on the old workhorse?

Impressive for a LDV. What type of rebuild (over and above routine maintenance) was required?

That type of Km's is much more common among long distance carriers.

    Wow!
Seems then that I am idiot for even considering selling mine at ONLY 486 000 odd Km after the re-build engine then.
Surely must be at least one rebuild along the way somewhere, maybe a previous owner?

    Brilliant.

That guy is a real bakkie whisperer!

It's from the nineties (golden age for durable cars), it' s an Isuzu, it mostly does tar, always serviced: perfect storm.

Yes that is the answer - The same driver every day, never abused and always serviced.

Check out the duty-and heating cycles. I recall traveling in a Ford Falcon stationwagon operating as a taxi in Perth-1.6 million km! Running on LPG. 24h/day-which is the real secret-the motor hardly ever cooled down. Which is also reflected in big trucks which run almost constantly with drivers changing-they do humungous distances. Engines don't like short distances.

this, plenty of diesel taxis running around around europe with million + km on the engines, pretty much only get switched off for servicing

I think that the more or less constant use and high KM are beneficial to engine longevity.

The other "oldies" on the forum will remember the Peugeot 404 - Considered to be the favorite Manufacturer's representative vehicle.
As they were known at the time; "Reps".
Some of them were "liquor reps" - complete with driver, because they were required to go into "pubs" / taverns, etc. and promote their brand.
Somewhat like the tobacco or cigarette reps who followed a similar pattern.

    Remember those ?
    Then you qualify.

    Anyway, we digress ...

It would seem that the biggest enemy of vehicle longevity is inactivity.
(OT) I think it applies to us as well.

    From my experience:

Well maintained, properly and timeously serviced, vehicles can last very very well.

So, ja, we need to travel MORE ... however, not always practical.

Now, having said all the above and coming back (somewhat) OT:

I would rather buy a very high KM vehicle (Relevant to age) with proven service record, than an older vehicle with very low KM.

Use it, don't use it, just my life experience.

    Love you all.
