The death of another establishment, simple as that. Some would rather that everything goes to ruin than seeing others of a different demographic succeed.

I will follow closely on how this will influence the area as a whole. Maybe I missed out on my last Sodwana holiday ever last December.

The chief is after money, money comes from white holiday makers and rich farmers with their insanely expensive fishing rigs - yes I said white. It is what it is, The chief will kick the BLF people out once he sees there's no more money flowing in.

But it may be too late then - my mate knows the owner of the lodge, he hasn't paid the chief in a while, so hence we have this poef.

Why has the owner not paid the chief?
Was it a semi bribe payment (pay off the locals) or some kind of formal agreement that went sour.

Allot of the kzn upper north and I think it's the same for the transkei, belong (or so they must think) to a chief, his family and their forefathers.

So it's common that to do business on "his" property, you pay a fee, assist the families now amd then, and, and, and . . . My one mate got married on the beach, in front of the hole in the wall in coffee bay, we had to pay the chief and bring learning goods (books, stationary etc) to the locals.

The reason why he has defaulted on this the last couple of months is also unknown to us. Maybe the chief got too greedy . . . That was not mentioned.

Sad happenings but is this not the perfect test for BLF to show what they will do with land.Take it from a thriving business to a rotting corpse. If however they continue with business as usual, pay their tribe fee and maintain what is there then no problem right

Its sad and unfortunate but people need to vote with their feet. I think it would be crazy to support Sodwana under these conditions. It will start all over the country f the BLF succeed in hijacking this lodge.

The chief needs to learn how capitalism works . No rich customers visiting means no much needed tourism dollars coming in.
I hope it gets resolved quickly and feel sorry for those whos income is on the line.

Incorrect, it goes further back than that.

    I'll quote Douglas Adams:

THat's another nail in the coffin of South Africa Inc. It further proves that the country is un-investible which should sadden us all. We have devolved into another typical african fiefdom run by tribal chiefs and the rule of law means nothing.

R4 000.00 per month rent, someone is having a laugh........................... all the way to the bank.

I bet you that has gotten some knowing sniggers around the old braai fire on more than one occasion.

And I by no means support BLF or their methods, particularly in this instance.

I have always felt that Julias should also be given a near end of life mine and asked to run it with no input from mLungu and let him prove his chops as a great business leader. I can bet, like all socialists, that the labour laws would be flouted and the place would be destroyed in a few months.
