Default How much is she worth? 1998 KB280DT

OK - HIJACK (Sort of - but fits the title of the thread):

What could I expect for the old Suuz? (1998 KB 280DT D/C)
    Details as per my signature.

Current KM circa 486 00 Km. Last serviced less than 5 000 Km back.

It has some extra's such as:

    Turbo protector.
Aux. 40 L fuel tank with submersible pump
Dual charging system through solenoid (No batteries or any other controller) - converted to backup for EKSDOM power outage backup at home.
Old Man Emu shocks, Engine rebuild and clutch replaced - compliments of this forum approx. 65 000 km back.
No bad signs from the engine so far - No smoking, no oil usage worth noting.
Some mods for overlanding - Backseat removed and spare relocated to back bulkhead. Seat and backrest available though.
    Opposite lock spots
Tires are mid life. (Good Year Wranglers A/T 16" on mag rims.)
    Towbar and ball.
No significant rust anywhere that I am aware of.
4WD Drive, Gearbox, Diff. lock all in working order.

    Now for the Cons:

Rims need attention due to overlanding and off-road damage, but usable.
Aircon not working, Interior fan not working, driver's window motor "lazy" (Used spare on hand)
Canopy - more or less FUBAR - wetter inside than out when in gentle continuous rainy weather.
Would love a respray on the body (bush rash etc.) but not essential.
Minor ding on the front of the bonnet
Otherwise - General wear and tear but nothing serious.

    Any guidance ?

I don't actually want to sell her but thinking (to be real) maybe getting a Jimny or something like that.
Can the Jimny pull a trailer ?

I can't believe that I am actually posting this.
Best offer so far = R 55 000 "as is" about six months ago.
No Km of note since then - standing at home with pulse charger attached and full diesel tanks.

By the looks of it, 55k was a silly offer.

    I won't settle for less than 90.

Without having looked at it I would say in the 60-65k range, high mileage but new motor, a bit rough round the edges and some work needed.

    Yes.
    If I got R 75 K I would probably accept - but don't hold me to that.
She is dear to my heart and I need a really good deposit on a replacement.

I am really keen on getting myself ( and my dad, he loves Isuzu!!) a really old (cheapie but reliable. I know that doesn't exist) fishing / camping vehicle that has low range 4x4. I will not be using it as my daily transport so I really cannot justify buying a newish 4x4 as it will just sit in the garage and only used once a month.

Your bakkie is perfect. Timing is a bit off because I have not as yet saved up enough but will be closer to my savings target by the end of the year.

Why do you want to or thinking of getting rid of it? The Jimny will also only serve the purpose of overlanding?

Ja, we are not going to be overlanding anymore due to SWAMBO's medical situation mainly, also costs starting to become an issue.
So would still like to take part in some KZN based forum GTG and activities, where necessary using self catering instead of camping.
But, yes, I am very reluctant to sell although most likely the sensible thing to do.
I am trying to establish a real and fair (to both buyer and seller) value - also for insurance purposes, now removing all the bells and whistles from the overland activities from my policy and reviewing the cover.

    But basically as described above.
The buyer would definitely have to spend some money, think aircon, canopy issues mainly.
I will probably get the rims sorted out at a mag rim rebuild place here in Pinetown.
They are usable but some have slow leaks.

I will get some pics done when I am finished stripping out some of the heath robinson type packing system etc.
    Thanks for the comments.

Peter, just an urgent word of caution.

Diesel does not like to be standing that long. The chemical composition breaks down and you will sit with black algae (a jelly gooey type substance) in your tanks that will block and clog up all your fuel lines and filters and diesel pump. A nightmare to sort out as tanks have to be drained and removed to clean as well as your filters and fuel lines.

This has happened to me once - also kept both my tanks to the brim without little driving for 2-3 months sometimes. You are already on 6 months.

Rather have the cash ready to fill up when necessary but drive those tanks empty pronto. Trust me on this.

Diesel does NOT like to be stored!

Why not empty the tank by using her as the daily for now, then park again.

If the time is right, put a for sale sign up and see what offers come in?

Thanks. It seems it may be worth quite a bit more than I thought.

In the meantime I think I am going to get the rims refurbed anyway - I am tired of pumping tires with an aging battery! (I keep it topped with a 7 Amp pulse charger) and run the motor when pumping.

The trouble is right now I don't even do much more than 200 Km per month even in my little Chev Spark run-around, let alone the Suuz!
It would take me about 6 months or so to use that diesel.

Maybe someone local would like to come and siphon off at the price as a few months ago per L
I am assuming the price was less then.
If I have 20 L in her it will be OK, as long as the inside of the fuel tanks don't rust!! (KZN remember!)

I may consider selling the trailer and Chev as well and then get a new or almost new Jimny which I could then also use as the run around in place of the Chev.? - but not sure if that is really the right decision.
I have been so very happy with the Chev which is in almost showroom condition with low Km and the trailer is stainless steel (box and lid) and has new tires including spare, so also almost indestructible.

It is indeed hard accepting the new reality, but I am trying to be logical.

The heart however, is not logical.
