I don't think there are many owners on here.

If you want lots of feedback from owners, try their GWM P-series Facebook page. They are very active and quite a few owners have given their real life feedback so far.

Why would you trade a reliable vehicle for something that's unproven?

I thought I would sit on my hands, but....

    My bil drives a Gonow.

That bakkie convinced me to never consider a vehicle from China.

There could be good ones, but that one is rubbish.

Trading a Pajero for a Chinese vehicle?
    Not me.

Maybe the OP is looking for a vehicle that doesn't come with a dash board rattle standard?
Have you seen and driven the more recent GWM products? Or does the fact that your BIL owns a Gonow make you an expert for GWM?

Better to go and look at the FB page.

You won't get much input here other than people critiquing your intentions.

I never said I'm an expert on any Chinese vehicle.
My experience is limited to my BIL's vehicle.

Adaptive cruise control was a huge selling point. I was saving for the new tuna but thats over 800k

It's a silly argument, it would be the same as saying you know someone who owns a Datsun Go that is a cheap piece of shite, so don't buy a Hilux because all Japanese cars must therefore be shite!

If GWM was really that bad there is no chance of them staying in the SA market from 2007.

Some brand witnesses will knock them down but there are many people happy with their purchase.

Yes the first ones were crap but the new ones are much better. But the first Kia's and Hyundai's were crap as well and look where they are today.

And may I ad. I know of many Fords, Nissans, VW, Isuzu, and even Toyotas which gave just as many problems. So why are they considered any better?

There was on the golf course last week. I had a really good look.

It looks great. Feels great and looks well put together.

If you buy new it comes with 5 year 100k kms warranty and service plan.

It uses the fantastic zf 8 speed auto box.

If I was in the market, Id buy one, but Id give it back when the warranty is done.

I did not expand on the problems, which are not specimen specific, rather in absolute quality.
(such as the way the thin sheetmetal is put together and corrosion treated).

I agree that it is wrong to rate all Chinese vehicles the same, but all German cars are similar in standard, so are all Japanese ones much the same as far as manufactuting standards go (in similar price ranges)
I was just afraid that, if all Chinese vehicles could adhere to the same standards, there could be a problem.

Hopefully the new GWM products are as good as the Japanese or German ones.

The problem I find with people wanting to buy a Chinese brand especially is that they only look at the gadgets. Fact is these vehicles are unproven, especially when it comes to engine reliability, who know what spares availability is like?!

The only problem I have read about the P-series is the suspension "composure". It is just not yet on the same level as say the Ranger or Amarok. Corrugations unsettle the suspension quite easy.

The rest seems awesome. And it is an imposing looking ute, with class leading features!

I am sure there are many who would completely disagree on this, I personally know of some Opel's that were really junk in the past, same with certain models from other manufacturers across the globe, I for one would never buy a Landrover due to so many reports of reliability problems, but I do not discount all British brands, I would happily own a Bentley, Mclaren, Rolls Royce Aston Martin or even a Jaguar on the cheaper end. Not to drag on an argument but I think one should not make blanket conclusions about anything.

Like others said the first Kia and Hyundai products that came into RSA were also suspect. Today they have an excellent reputation for reliability and they back their products up with decent warranty's.

Some of the Chinese brands are going the same route. Haval(GWM) has hired some of the best designers and engineers in the business, they use components such as the ZF transmissions that other premium German brands are also using. If you look closely at their cars you can see that there is attention to detail and build quality.

The only criticism that I personally have would be resale value, not because the products lack in quality but because of perceptions like what you are currently displaying.

Who knows in time to come the general buying public might change their perceptions on some of these Chinese brands like they did with the Koreans.
