Default Np300 diesel check engine light issue

So ive got a very young 3 year 2.5 diesel 4x4 with just over 30k on the clock. Twice in about 3 months ive had an issue now with the bakkie randomly having a rev spike in traffic and the check engine light tripping. Both occasions after hosing it off. Not sure if this is a coincidence but i'm starting to think it's not.

first time, turned it off and on and it was fine until today. This morning, hosed the bakkie off before work. 10km down the road engine revs and engine light goes on. Pull over, turn off and turn it back on. Everything is fine. Decide to drive directly to Nissan, it happens again while in idle outside the dealership.

They have a look and of coarse the light isn't on now. They said they recalibrated the injectors, for what reason i don't know. They never spoke to me to get context of the situation. So when i ask what is going to happen when this fault comes again they say well then book it in for us to investigate. I ask what will you do if i book it in vs what you did now, their response is oh well check the manual.

Now call me pedantic but that doesn't sound like a plan to me. I'm considering taking it to my local mechanic that i know does proper work and could maybe do a more thorough diagnosis.

Anyone with any ideas of what could be going on to narrow the search? Water through the intercooler scoop, but surely that can't be right. That would mean every time you drive in rain you risk going into limp mode.

Did you hose off inside the engine bay as well?

    That is very strange then.

I had an NP300 a few years ago, and I cannot fathom what would cause this if you hosed off the body only.

Did you take it to an auto-electrician? Its sound electrical.

Remember it has an intercooler scoop. So water still gets through.

When it happened the first time there was a small amount of water sitting on top of the engine. But I can't see how this would be an issue unless there's an exposed wire.

Not to mention I hose off regularly. So probably this is the 20th occasion since the last incident

As far as I can recall there is nothing close to the intercooler that would cause this, unless enough volumes of water entered the intercooler - but that's a bit of a stretch as well.

Ye I think the water issue is a long shot. I also considered dirty diesel, or clogged diesel filter.

Maybe explains why the injectors needed recalibration. This is a worry because that could cause serious issues down the road.

It's die for a service soon, but not a diesel filter replacement as it's a minor service. Maybe I should just get it done

Just do me a favour - clean the sensor at the intake and make sure it is dry.

Disconnect the battery and reconnect it after a minute.

Clean with MAF cleaner or electro clean. Don't poke anything in there.

Bakkie was in with the dealer for exactly a month!

New loom and new tappet cover....Let's hope its now complete. They can't explain why the loom failed, no sign of damage. They suggested corrosion, but seems unlikely for such a young vehicle. Although, based on the rest of the bakkie poor corrosion protection it would not surprise me.

Doubt its water. Otherwise Nissan would have said don't drive in the rain.

Seems Nissan had no idea where to start looking in the first place.
