Folkses. As much as it irks me, I am going to have to withdraw from this. As I mentioned earlier on in this thread, I was away and I got back to Pretoria on Monday. But I picked up two issues with my truck during my trip.

1: There is an issue with the sub-tank, as it is in failure mode.
2: Age has caught up with the starter.

It was bound to happen - starter motors work hard cranking that straight 6...

I put my spare starter motor (refurbed brushes and solenoid) in yesterday as a temporary fix, and I've sourced a new one which I will install over the weekend. I've also got to get the sub-tank system working properly again...

Driving back from Namibia with a non-functional starter motor and a drastically reduced range was not lekker. It was either a pull or a push start every time I switched off to refuel. And the truck was loaded - I reckon it was on the limit of it's 3.5T GVM.

I don't think I'm popular with many of the pomp joggies who helped us along the way...

    Please note:

We are quite a crowd, and we will need some admin to keep record of who is who. To help with this I will need all of you to please do the following on Sunday:

    • When you arrive do not go though the boom to the picnic site, but rather proceed to the Hadeda campsite lapa to record your details.
    • We will need your Name/Forum Name, your Vehicle make, your registration number
    • We will issue you with a numbered sticker, that you need to stick onto your car
    • This number will be used to track who is who throughout the day, no sticker, no score..
    • The DeWildt staff will come collect the trail fee from us at the Lapa

Please be sure to attend the event briefing in the Lapa to get an idea of where we will be taking you..
To ease the process, we will not be following the trail in its routing and will be taking shortcut to the planned obstacles that will be used.

I ask that no one drinks Alcohol on the trail, participant or spectators, there will be ample time afterwards to have a cold one.

    Challenges planned:

    • Challenge 1 = X -axle - full traction aid mode (up)
    • Challenge 2 = X -axle - full traction aid mode (down)
    • Challenge 3 = Control Test (Will be explained, but involves x-axels and turning while coming up a small ramp as slow as possible)
    • Challenge 4 = Side-slope and tractive ability (This involves a side-slope and a surprise)
    • Challenge 5 = A Rock climb and downhill (To test your uphill and downhill traction and control on steep slippery conditions)
    • Challenge 6 = Pit traction and control (My secret for now)
    • A slow dice - Just for fun

Each challenge will be scored out of 5 and a total will be given at the end. (We hope to rope in the services of 3 marshals)
The slow dice will be a timed event over a set distance, with the longest time taken the winner. (No braking allowed)

Please comment if you need more clarity
